Actually really truly do! Here’s some cool stuff about emeralds, much love x
> The oldest emeralds are nearly 3 billion years old, but the first known emeralds were mined in Egypt in about 1500 BC – Cleopatra was a massive fan.
> Most natural emeralds have flaws, or inclusions, and people actually love them MORE for this because it makes each one truly individual.
> More than 50% of the world’s emeralds come from Colombia.
> Emeralds are the birthstone of May, and 35th/55th wedding anniversaries.
> If the metaphysical speaks to you, emeralds are believed to be the stone of eternal love, with an energy of growth, renewal and fresh beginnings.

It’s RUBIES today! Working on a lovely commission piece – want to know a little more about these beauties?
1. Ruby is one of the four precious gemstones – the others are diamond, emerald & sapphire.
2. The word ruby comes from the Latin ‘rubens’, meaning red.
3. Rubies are super strong – they’re a 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness & are only slightly softer than diamonds.
4. Rubies have been found in Myanmar, Africa, USA & Australia.
5. Ruby is the birthstone for July & also a traditional gift for folks celebrating 15th or 40th wedding anniversaries.

**NEW** WILDERNESS bracelet
Cluster of rich green tourmaline nestled between sparkling midnight blue sapphires. With sterling silver, recycled sterling silver & 14ct gold filled finishes.
Inspiration for WILDERNESS:
………………
Everyone has their own sense of what the ‘wilderness’ is for them. For me, it’s not a scary place – it’s the sense of calm and ‘in tune-ness’ (if that’s even a word ;) I get from going out for a walk. In the trees, up a hill, on the beach, wherever. A place to gently tumble thoughts, ideas and feelings around and see where I end up. It’s soothing, grounding and kind of magic. Does this resonate with you, or is your wilderness something different? Much love x

LUUM Workshop has been warmly welcomed into Frances Nation Home, a helluva design and artisanal store in the Arts Centre in Ōtautahi Christchurch. It was named after founder Tessa’s grandmother, who really valued functionality and quality in all things. It’s full of useful, well-designed New Zealand made goods.
Their jewellery collection is growing and LUUM will sit alongside greats such as Alexandra Dodds, Dion Hancy and Hannah Upritchard. Woo! Photos to come next time I’m in Chch x
BUT I’d like to introduce you to their beautiful 100% natural Blue Earth soaps – Frances Nation are donating soap proceeds directly to Te Poho-o-Hinemihi Marae in Wairoa, to assist in the Cyclone Gabrielle recovery – funds helping to provide shelter, food and care packages to those around the Wairoa region. Great if you’re not sure how to help – they’re available to buy online, so you can donate from afar, link below 💛

I’ve gotta be honest – photography and capturing the colour and true beauty of the jewels has been pretty challenging so far, but I tried out a new camera this weekend, definitely not perfect yet, but hopefully getting better! Much love x

I’ve spent the last few days in Clyde, Arrowtown and Queenstown introducing LUUM workshop to some beaaaautiful stores, and even more beautiful folks – watch this space.
Thinking a lot about our loved ones and everyone up North, hoping you’re safe, much love x
I LOVE love love developing new jewel designs, but it’s not just the gemstone and colour combinations I consider, it’s the feeeeeling around the individual piece too.
Which is why I’ve quietly started naming them (see the newest designs from the workshop below). What do you think? Do you think names attach too much meaning to them, or do you warm to them? Let me know in the comments. Much love! X
Mornings of Gold – ‘AA’ grade micro-faceted Madeira citrine; ‘AAA’ grade micro-faceted pyrite
Everyday Soirée – ivory freshwater potato pearl; untreated micro-faceted emerald

I’ve been thinking about 2023. Not so much what I can get out of it but hopefully what I can offer. And I really want it to be a l’il joy. Joy, joy and more joy. I’m in LOVE with making jewels but mostly watching people light up when they throw them on, so hands down that’s where my energy will go this year and hopefully flow on… happy new year everyone x
And…gorgeous drippy jewel bracelets are my newest creation from the workshop. I’ve just dropped some into Vull Design store in Dunedin (p**n. “Vool Design”) – we’re talking rich button garnets, ivory pearls, lush emeralds, golden citrine, refreshing turquoise, carnelian – all paired with 100% sterling silver and 14ct gold filled finishes.
