ZANZIBAR Dunedin
ZANZIBAR Dunedin
3pm til Late 7 Days (Licensed till 2am, generally open til at least midnight)
Fresh on tap today - direct from Heyday Beer Co in Wellington as part of their First Pour Lager & Sour Series - we have a Dunkel, and a Burnt Orange and Dandelion Spritz.
Dunkel (German for dark) is a dark bavarian style lager - this lager has a deep mahogany hue hinting at complexity, this Dunkel entices the senses. Toasted bread and caramelised malt aromas lead, complemented by a delicate interplay of dark chocolate and cacao. Balanced in flavour and highly drinkable, it combines nutty sweetness with subtle bitterness, ensuring a satisfying exploration with every sip.
Burn Orange Dandelion Spritz - Dive into the effervescent world of this Burnt Orange & Dandelion Spritz, where citrus-driven sensations intertwine w/ the complexity of caramelised sweetness & lively zest. Three different types of macerated dandelion roots add an intriguing depth of earthy bitterness, while the ethereal essence of dandelion flowers impart a honey & floral delicacy. Light & refreshing on the palate, each sip offers a symphony of flavours, making for a truly invigorating experience that dances across the senses.
Last month's Lager sold out almost immediately so be sure to get in quick if you want to try one of these great beers!

Monday got you down? Make it better with gin!
What a beautiful day today! Make it better with a gin :)
Yes we are open, and no we don’t have a public holiday surcharge
edit: the pipes on george street don’t look like this anymore. this is why the roadworks were necessary in the first place. there’s nothing wrong with our water. Gin still just tastes better.
Tired of the road works in Dunedin? So are we, but we are enormously grateful that our water isn’t going through 100 years of sediment in the pipes anymore.. Yes there is still work being done around us and we still have a couple months of disruption to deal with but how amazing does it all look!
We are still in discussions with council about how much space we are allowed on the footpath, but once we iron out those final wrinkles we will be putting out some brand new street furniture so you can enjoy Dunedin at its finest with only the best gin and tonic.
In the mean time we still have our old faithful table and chairs for you to make the most of Dunedin sunshine.
Once you’ve had a couple gins, stay hydrated with some of dunedins finest water brought to you from years of hard work by all the fine construction workers improving the streets of Dunedin. You can taste the difference. (gin does still taste better)
drink responsibly.
We took a bit of a break on Monday's to start the year, but we are back and ready to help you with you New Year's Resolutions of trying more Gin.
Everyday is New Zealand Gin Day at Zanzibar, but today everyone else celebrates it as well.
We look forward to ringing in the new year with you tonight, then will be taking a few days off.
Open tonight so you can end this year and start next year with a gin in hand, then closed on the 1st, and 2nd. Reopening Wednesday at 3pm.
Sandymount Distillery is taking over Zanzibar in Dunedin this Friday.
We will have a special menu with great Sandymount drink specials. And Sandymount staff behind the bar as well
All Zanzibar's usual offerings are still available.
We are also running a private tasting at 7pm too, only 8 seats available for the tasting so email [email protected] to secure your spot.
Tastings are $25 per person, with the full Sandymount range and nibbles.
See you there
it’s a little bit difficult to get to the bar at the moment… but it’s worth the effort😂😂😂
We’re not 100% sure what all this talk about black friday is about. But this pint sure looks good.
How great is this beautiful paving looking!
Come and see us for a gin to admire the handiwork.
Diggers also available to look at!
Normal hours resumed until further notice!
Same deal as yesterday, we’re going to give the footpath pavers some time and space and open a little later today. see you after 5.
We are opening later today to avoid being in the way of the paving team. The new footpath is coming along great.
see you at 5pm today.
it’s a little bit tricky to get to the bar today.
edit: the isaac’s crew to get the footpath open before we opened for the day. it’s pretty amazing how quickly the crew has been completing our block when you look at how long the other blocks took.
somewhat unexpectedly/unannounced our footpath is being dug up outside. if you’re trying to reach us from the north you’ll need to walk to hanover street to cross. This does mean we are lacking our outside table but we are still open and i can assure you we have a gin that will make the detour to get here worth your while 🙂
on your way here why not stop in and support another business on the street? there are heaps of great eateries all around us and we welcome you to bring kai from any small business to enjoy with one of our drinks.
We've always been proud of rotating our taps, Deep Creek was always a brewery that sat high on our "we should get them in list" but sadly I don't think I've had them on tap in the last 3 year. They've made fantastic beers and I've always enjoyed their selection when seen in other venues. Deep Creek was known to make amazing beers and to see them exit the NZ craft beer scene is deeply saddening.
I wish all their staff well and I am sure they will all land on their feet.
Please continue to support small local businesses and breweries. Our taps are not under contract to any major brewery, and we are always open to suggestions for small breweries we can support. You can do this by mentioning your favourite brews to our staff, publicly on social media, or flicking us a DM.
Don't take a good brew for granted, you just don't know when the last keg will be tapped.
Zanzibar is Closed Today.
We are putting our feet up and celebrating all our hard work!
Congratulations to Cassels for yet another worlds best award! Cassels Milk stout is pretty much our only tap that doesn't rotate - So come in for the best pint in the world.
can't wait for the rugby to beGIN? Come have a drink at Zanzibar.
