Playing with heart every time
As Christmas begins, it's been another year of reminders about how important it is to look after ourselves and to lookout for each other.
Trees are up, presents are being opened, Christmas carols are playing, families are gathering and the food is being prepared in many homes across the country, and around the world.
However, we understand that Christmas isn't always a time of joy and happiness. For those of us who have experienced hardships and sadness (loss of a loved one, illness, loneliness, loss of income, homelessness, war or famine etc) Christmas can be particularly difficult. For those going through such a tough time, we're sending you lots of Toroa aroha. Please remember that professional support is available through the wonderful staff at 1737 (call or text 1737 anytime.)
For those of us doing ok right now, a small act of kindness (reaching out to others with a visit, call, text, some baking etc) can be a really significant 'gift'.
Wherever you are, we send you our very best wishes for a safe and happy holiday season. How ever you celebrate or spend this time of year, we hope you have the chance to enjoy time with family, friends and loved ones.
From our Toroa family to yours,
Meri Kirihimete
Tino arohanui
take care ❤️

Although our 'in person' celebrations may have been interrupted, we are spending time this Waitangi Day reflecting on the history of Aoteoroa, the intentions of Te Tiriti and also our individual and collective whakapapa. Courage, Kindness, Kōrero
Sending Toroa aroha as we think of those in the Kingdom of Tonga. And also to those around the world who feel so far away from their whanau, friends and fellow Tongans. Kia kaha!
The award winning Rapata Wiki-Cummings has created a strategic story of life at Toroa.
It’s arriving as strangers and leaving as friends; the opportunity to learn something new every day; the moments you can’t put into words; the little memories that last a lifetime; the late nights, the good times and the laughter,
It’s all about experiencing things together.

University of Otago scholarships go live tomorrow, 1 July 2021 and close 15 August 2021
Here are a couple of tips for you
- It is NOT first come first serve, so no need to rush! Give yourself the time to submit the best application possible
- You WILL need to create an eVision account as part of this process, please use your own personal email address NOT a school email address or a family email address
- You WILL need to indicate what you HOPE to study. At this stage this does not really matter. Keep is simple. Select One Degree and One Major. If you are doing HSFY you will not have a major
- Ask for help if needed
- Get excited!!
Have a look at this page. it provides a wee guide that will help you work through the process. This may seem like a lot of work, but it's worth it to have a shot at our valuable scholarships.
Tonight we sadly said a fond farewell to Max, our Front of House guru. Max, we appreciate you and all that you have contributed to the Toroa community. Your welcoming smile, your kindness and your humility have made our dining experience nothing less than outstanding.
Go well in your new venture, great things await you.
