Today I am writing about a key behind-the-scenes Flying Nun-associated personality, rather than a record release by an artist. There have been a few important people associated with the label over the years helping to keep the thing...

Half hour RNZ broadcast yesterday on their Sunday 101 show. Worth a listen to as the topic was broadly 'The Dunedin Sound.' Gosh, I wish that I could right here and now be developing my music opportunity's with the current activities mentioned. Back in 'my day' trying as a female to organise our band in a s*x and age discrimination era. Too young at 19 to get a gig. Then it was 20 years old to get into venues, not 18 with the all age events like now.
From AK79 to the Class of 81
Giving the Dunedin Sound a shakeup: The future of the indie Ōtepoti scene The Ōtepoti arts scene has long had a gloriously independent fertile, multi-generational, cross art form approach. But is that culture - once famously dubbed the Dunedin Sound - under threat? Many creatives are concerned. They came of age in the city from the 1980s through to the 2010s, and cite fa...

Clad in cat clothing with small accessory of a limp kitty is the unmistakable face and here body of Rock n Roll. Swapped his guitar for a baby feline with his lyrical statement as seen below. The Rolling Stones new song released today called 'All the Rage' with lyrics of "I don't need your designer drugs, I don't want your bad co***ne." Shame cats didn't get a mention!
"Cats are musicians without instruments."

A blast from only last year's past. Realistic reality now post election blues. Go figure ...
My unchanged post from a year ago today was
"As opinionated as I am which pretty well comes from age and life experiences, I am so thankful to get these accurate explanations to say it how it is. Now empowered with this knowledge of politics 101, I can see more objectivity of this election campaign. Perhaps I might feel less frustration with the whole spectacle of it, and now see it as a hideous torment with a result of making or breaking my future! Well done Moana for this enlightenment."
Last weekend I ventured down to Balclutha in South Otago. Here is a tasty teaser of what I was up to. Caught SIX60 on their final gig of their 'The Grassroots Tour NZ' Of course knowing me, there is a lot more yet to come!
When the King Loser documentary came to town with a live gig featuring Chris Heazlewood in 'Cash Guitar', I offered to film their set in Dunedin's historic Regent Theatre. This was for my respect of my friend Celia Mancini, (RIP) who was most appreciative of my photos and videos of her and her band, King Loser, in 2017. Our rock & roll spirit as mature women was an obvious connection. 'Lay Down' was the last song and because of the vocal strength and performance of the four wahines (women) on stage, I felt that it was a homage to Celia Mancini. She was the singer/base/keys in King Loser and the leading lady in the King Loser music documentary selected for the New Zealand Film Festival. Celia, was certainly in the house in spirit and also her poster girl stage presence. 'Cash Guitars ' consists of Billy Foster on drums, Mick Elborado on bass, Connie Benson on guitar, Lainie Henderson keys and vocals, Poppy Theyers synth and vocals, Deirdre Newall vocals, Chris Heazlewood guitar and vocals.
As Chris said "Deirdre Newall joining us onstage to bring it bigger."
Her guest appearance was for this song and her regular band is 'Tiny Pieces of Eight.'
