WHO CAN GET ANTIVIRALS?
People with a high risk of severe illness from COVID-19 are eligible for treatment with COVID-19 antiviral medicines. These medicines reduce the amount of virus in your body, so you do not get as sick and you are less likely to go to hospital.
You can get free antiviral medicines if you:
• have COVID-19 and symptoms or you are a Household Contact and have symptoms, and
• became sick within the last 5 days, and
• are eligible for the medicine.
Eligible people include:
• Māori or Pacific people aged 50 or over
• everyone aged 65 or over
• anyone aged 50 or over with fewer than 2 COVID-19 vaccinations
• anyone with a severely weakened immune system
• anyone with Down syndrome
• anyone with sickle cell disease
• anyone who has previously been in critical high dependency hospital care from COVID-19
• anyone with 3 or more high-risk medical conditions.
HOW TO GET ANTIVIRALS FOR COVID-19 INFECTION?
There are 2 ways to get antivirals:
• Ask your doctor or nurse practitioner for a prescription.
• Ask your pharmacist. Many pharmacies can give you antiviral medicines without a prescription, after a health check by phone.
DO I NEED A PRESCRIPTION TO GET ANTIVIRALS?
You may not need a prescription as some pharmacies can give free COVID-19 antiviral medicines without a prescription to people who are eligible. There are 19 pharmacies in Dunedin and Otago who are able to prescribe antivirals directly. Further details are on the Healthpoint website https://www.healthpoint.co.nz/pharmacy/dunedin-south-otago/?serviceArea=im%3A4c6d7c33-f590-4f65-8290-fe9019c3ea72. The pharmacies are:

RED TRAFFIC LIGHT – PHASE THREE
Now that we are in Phase Three, there are changes to the definition of a contact. You may be unsure of what this means and when you need to contact us for testing. We have attached a graph to help you with this.
If you require a COVID test, please contact reception on 477 8812 (extension 1) to arrange an appointment.
https://covid19.govt.nz/assets/resources/social-media/UAC_what-type-of-contact-are-you.png
ALBANY STREET MEDICAL CENTRE UNDER RED TRAFFIC LIGHT SYSTEM:
To keep everyone safe, we are once again changing the way we operate, as instructed by the Ministry of Health. Please DO NOT turn up at the Medical Centre without having spoken to one of our team on the phone first. Call 477 8812 (extn 1) between 8.30 am to 5.00 pm (weekdays).
We are still required to continue to ask you questions about your current health status and your vaccination status. Screening continues to be the best way to avoid spread of Covid-19 and this is so we can assess your risk to staff and other patients and plan when your appointment should be scheduled. If you require a support person with you, please advise reception as these questions will also apply to them.
Our guidelines suggest that face to face appointment times should be kept to 15 minutes.
OMICRON SYMPTOMS:
The five most common Omicron symptoms are:
• Runny Nose,
• Headache,
• Fatigue,
• Sneezing and
• Sore throat.
But remember the following were also reported in previous strains but are less common in Omicron
• Loss of smell and taste,
• Fever,
• Nausea (vomiting and/or diarrhoea)
• Shortness of Breath
• Cough
• Nasal Congestion
APPOINTMENTS:
We encourage all patients who do not require a physical examination to be seen via telephone or video consults These consultations will be charged at your normal consultation charge. Please phone reception to book these appointments as you are no longer able to book appointments through Manage My Health (MMH).
PLEASE NOTE: if you require a face to face appointment, masks MUST be worn prior to entering our building and during your appointment time. The mask must be either an N95 or surgical mask. If you only have a material mask, a surgical mask will be provided for you to wear on top of your material mask.
WAITING ROOM:
We still want to minimise the number of patients waiting in our waiting room so if you have an appointment with us, please ensure only you attend that appointment. We understand there will be cases where a support person is required or a parent needs to attend for a child’s appointment but we would appreciate it if the majority of patients attend by themselves.
Please do not come early for your appointment, keep as close to your appointment time as possible. This will help us to reduce the number of patients in our waiting room at any one time.
PRESCRIPTIONS:
For repeat prescriptions please use MMH, if you are registered on it, otherwise phone reception. We encourage all patients to register with MMH. Through MMH, you will be able to order repeat prescriptions and contact your GP to arrange a virtual consult.
Our prescription charges are:
Request made via Manage My Health - $15.00
Request made via Telephone - $20.00
Urgent/Same Day - $25.00
If you would like to register with MangeMyHealth, please contact reception on 477 8812 (extn 1).
COVID-19 TESTING:
As per the Government recommendations, cold and flu-like symptoms should be tested for COVID-19.
Albany Street Medical Centre is offering this service to all patients.
Please phone reception on 477 8812 (extn 1) to arrange an appointment for testing.

Under the Red Light setting Dunedin Urgent Doctors will not be accepting walk in appointments. If you require an appointment, please phone 479 2900 and you will be given an appointment or a phone consultation. Dunedin Urgent Doctors is open from 8.00 am to 10.00 pm every day.
FACE MASKS:
Face masks are one of the key weapons in the fight against Omicron and knowing how to fit your N95 or surgical mask is vital to maximising your protection.
The three most important things to consider are filtration, fit, and comfort.
Filtration is about finding the mask which blocks the virus the best – ideally an N95/P2 and if not one of those, a surgical mask. It needs to be comfortable, otherwise you won't wear it.
When you’re thinking about fit, you want to make sure the mask has a tight seal against your face. There is a link below where Auckland GP Sandhya Ramanathan explains how to get the best fit.

UPDATE
As you will be aware, the Government has announced a new COVID-19 Protection Framework which will adopt a “traffic-light” approach to managing COVID-19.
We would like to stress that all patients are welcome at Albany Street Medical Centre. We will not be refusing to treat any patients who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. Under the Code of Health and Disability Service Consumers’ Rights, patients have the right to freedom from discrimination, to be treated with respect, and the right to services of an appropriate standard.
However, we are required to continue to ask you questions about your current health status and we will now also ask you about your vaccination status. Screening continues to be the best way to avoid spread of Covid-19 and this is so we can assess your risk to staff and other patients and plan when your appointment should be scheduled.
Thank you for your understanding.
ASTRAZENECA is now available.
If you are unvaccinated and have been waiting for an alternative to Pfizer, you can now book an appointment through Book My Vaccine – https://bookmyvaccine.covid19.health.nz.
However, if you have already received one dose of the Pfizer vaccine and wish to receive AstraZeneca for your second dose, you will need to make an appointment with your GP as you will need to provide paperwork to the vaccinator. Meridian Mall Mass Vaccination Centre is administering all AstraZeneca vaccines.
VACCINE PASSPORTS
From Friday 3 December you may need to use My Vaccine Passport to enter events and venues as required by the traffic light system.
You may need to show it in a range of public settings. These could include:
• events
• hospitality
• close-proximity businesses, such as hairdressers and gyms
• sport
• faith-based gatherings.
If you are having trouble accessing your vaccine passport and require assistance you can either:
• Phone 0800 222 478 between 8.00 am and 8.00 pm. 7 days a week; or
• Pharmacies that are providing COVID-19 vaccinations can also help you request and print a pass or certificate. If possible, please bring your NHI number and a form of identification when you pop in.
