⚠️BOIL WATER NOTICE⚠️
Dunedin City Council advises all residents and businesses in the following areas to boil all drinking water until further notice.
This applies to the all DCC-supplied properties in West Harbour from District Road, Roseneath to Lewis Street, Deborah Bay.
This includes Roseneath, Sawyer's Bay, Port Chalmers, Carey's Bay and Deborah Bay.
This is a precautionary measure as we have switched to a new water supply following damage to the water main in Maia during recent flooding.
The boil water notice will remain in place until all water quality testing is complete on the new supply.
We will advise when the boil water notice has been lifted.

⚠️ HEAVY RAIN UPDATE 11.44AM FRI 4 OCT - SANDBAGS, WELFARE, ROADS ⚠️
We're continuing to respond to issues across the city.
WELFARE:
🫂 The St Clair Golf Club welfare centre is closing. If you feel you need to get to a welfare centre, the Forsyth Barr Stadium is still open.
🫂 Brighton Surf Life Saving Club is open for people in the area.
SANDBAGS:
🪨 Sandbags are still available at South Dunedin (Ice Stadium), Mosgiel (Memorial Park carpark) and Middlemarch (Showgrounds). We will soon have some bags and sand available at the East Otago Events Centre.
🪨Using your sandbag: remove any debris from the area and place the bags lengthwise, tuck the flaps under and keep the unfilled portion under the weight of the sack. If you have any remaining bags, these can be placed on top of the others.
🪨 In exceptions where you are unable to access collection points or transport bags yourself, we can help getting them to you. If you can collect them yourself, please do.
ROADS:
🚧 Keep an eye on our website for update to date information about road conditions and closures: dunedin.govt.nz/roadconditions
🚧 The track and carpark at Tunnel Beach is closed due to track slips and water volumes in the area.
🚧 Please avoid disrupted areas, such as the Peninsula Road.
🚧 If you can, please avoid heading out on the road. If you must, please exercise caution.
WATER:
💧All flood water should be treated as contaminated. Please keep out and away from all flood and river water.
💧West Harbour and Peninsula residents should conserve water. Water tanks are on their way, please bring your own containers.
💧There is a wastewater discharge happening at the Lawyers Head Outfall. Please stay away and do not swim or collect shellfish from the area.
💧 Portaloos have been placed out in Aramoana.
☎️ If you see anything urgent, please call 03 477 4000.
Thank you to everyone for your community efforts to keep yourselves and each other safe as we navigate this heavy rain.
We know it can be stressful out there as things change and some people may be feeling uncertain. Please remember to be kind to community members, contractors, staff and volunteers as we work through this together. Keep an eye on our pages for updates.

⚠️ STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED – DUNEDIN WEATHER EVENT ⚠️
Mayor Jules Radich has declared a State of Emergency for Dunedin City in response to heavy rainfall and flooding in the area.
Residents in South Dunedin, particularly in Caversham in and around the areas near Hillside Road and Surrey Street, are being advised to self-evacuate and get to higher ground if they feel unsafe. If they have friends or whānau they can stay with, they should go there first.
🌧WELFARE CENTRE: A welfare centre has been setup at the St Clair Golf Club (20 Isadore Road) for those in South Dunedin that do not have anywhere safe to go to. There is plenty of parking. Pets are welcome.
🌧SANDBAGS: Sandbags will continue to be available from South Dunedin (Ice Stadium), Mosgiel (Memorial Park/Gym carpark) and Middlemarch (Showgrounds) overnight. There is high demand in South Dunedin, so please be patient.
🌧ROAD CLOSURES: Several roads have been closed. Please keep up to date with road closures at our website.
🌧LANDSLIPS: There has been a landslip on Aramoana Rd between Careys Bay and Deborah Bay, and on the access road to Smaills Beach from Tomohawk Road. Both are blocked and unsafe to drive through.
🌧FLOODING: There is still significant flooding on Peninsula Road and around the Hoopers and Papanui Inlets, and in Caversham in South Dunedin. We expect more surface flooding in other areas that may be difficult to see, so we advise people not to travel. For those that do need to travel, such as to get to a safe location, it is important to take care and drive to the conditions.
🌧URGENT: If there is anything urgent, you can call us on 03 477 4000. If it is an emergency, call 111.
🌧The important thing is to remain calm and not panic. We will continue to provide more updates on throughout the night, so keep checking here regularly. Stay safe, stay warm, and look after yourself, friends and whānau.
Image descriptions: Blue graphic with yellow writing "State of Emergency declared".
IMPORTANT: Pass along to anyone needed.
An evacuation centre is being established at the St Clair Golfclub (20 Isadore Road) for those that do not have alternative accommodation to go to. There is plenty of parking and pets are allowed. Red Cross volunteers will be there to provide assistance.
The latest update from the Dunedin City Council - we thank them, and Otago Civil Defence and Emergency Management alongside all the workers and volunteers putting in the hours to help keep us all safe.
⚠️ HEAVY RAIN UPDATE – 10.20PM – Thursday, 3 October ⚠️
We are aware of surface flooding and drains backing up in low-lying areas particularly in South Dunedin. We are encouraging residents to self-evacuate if they feel unsafe in their homes.
We ask that residents first and foremost find friends or family they can stay with.
🌧 A welfare centre has been set up at Forsyth Barr Stadium.
🌧 Aramoana Rd between Careys Bay and Deborah Bay is partially blocked by a landslip, and has significant flooding that is unsafe to drive through.
🌧 There is still significant flooding on Peninsula Road and around the Hoopers and Papanui Inlets.
🌧 Sandbags will continue to be available from South Dunedin (Ice Stadium), Mosgiel (Memorial Park/Gym carpark) and Middlemarch (Showgrounds) overnight. There is high demand in South Dunedin so please be patient.
🌧 Keep up to date on road closures at https://www.dunedin.govt.nz/news-and-events/public-notices/road-conditions-and-closures
We ask that people do not travel unless absolutely necessary. There has been significant rainfall and there may be unseen surface flooding that is difficult to see especially now that it is night. For those that are travelling, it is important to take care and drive to the conditions.
Thank you to everyone who has helped to keep others safe today. Kia kaha. If there is anything urgent, you can contact us on 03 477 4000.
