City Choir Dunedin

City Choir Dunedin is for singers from all walks of life who share our delight in choral singing.

As Dunedin's leading exponent of large-scale choral works, City Choir Dunedin strives for the highest standards in performing the classics of the repertoire, such as Bach's "St Matthew Passion", Handel's "Messiah" and the Verdi "Requiem". The Choir also enjoys presenting contemporary works and commissions new choral works from New Zealand composers from time to time. The Choir provides a forum for

Awesome! See you there! St Paul's Cathedral, Dunedin | Saturday 28 September 2024 | 7pm

Did someone say tour!?

We’ve been wanting to go to the deep south of New Zealand for a long time – and the choir is excited to be flying to Dunedin at the end of September to present a Gala Recital at

St Paul's Cathedral, Dunedin | Saturday 28 September 2024 | 7pm.

Entry is by programme at the door | Eftpos will be available.

The recital will showcase the choir over a wide range of repertoire that includes the wonderful Ave Maria of Robert Parsons, works by Antognini, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Tschesnokoff, Holst and others.

New Zealand composers will be represented by choir member Chris Artley’s stunning Tupuārangi that was recently featured in the amazing Matariki Event in Holy Trinity Cathedral; and, honouring composers from Otago, the choir will perform Richard Madden’s moving Set me as a Seal – accompanied at the cathedral organ by Dunedin’s David Burchell - and the dramatic Song of Hope by Anthony Ritchie.

There will be a taste of the choir’s lighter repertoire too – completing an evening of high-class choral entertainment from one of New Zealand’s premier mixed-voice ensembles.

For The Graduate Choir NZ directed by Terence Maskell, this is a long-awaited tour and we are sure that our friends in Otago – where there is a thriving choral community – will not want to miss hearing this celebrated choir in concert.

See you there!

‘Passion’ still enthralling after 300 years Bach wrote the St John Passion in 1724, and for 300 years audiences have been enthralled by the enormity and poignancy of this work.
