The Art and Culture of Public Transport. It is not so easy to transform socio-cultural attitudes from an underdeveloped country to a highly developed country. For that to happen, the backbone of a country or education must be at a very advanced level. Children are children in any country. But in New Zealand, children learn social skills in 'Kiwi education'. I am writing this post to give a good example of that. I am now a bus driver. I received a short intensive training for that. I am currently studying various routes in Auckland, New Zealand. Meanwhile, I am also studying bus routes for schools. My 'Route Tutor' is a Sri Lankan. He is an expert driver with more than 10 years of experience in this profession. His name is James De Silva. #nzbus NZ Bus knows him as 'James'. We say 'Lasantha'. I say 'Machan'. We are so close. He is also a good guitarist. So this is the story. Today we both started work in the morning at 6.30 am from Glenfield Depot. On the first trip, Lasanta stopped the bus when he saw a certain girl running towards the bus and was about to take the passengers. She came and said first of all, I thank you very much for waiting for me. Lasantha also thanked her in return and we resumed our journey. We come from State Highway South and enter Auckland city. Passengers got off at several stops. At one bus stop, that girl stopped at the front door to get off, and she said 'Thanks again, I really appreciate that' by reawakenning the memory of the incident and started to get off. It was amazing that I was able to record it on my smartphone. This is what I wanted to say here. One of the prominent features of New Zealand social culture is to thank the driver when getting on and off the bus. This is because they have the belief that the bus driver's seat belongs only to a person who can provide safety in their lives. This society inculcates childhood habits in children. I performed as a "tenor" singer for Sri Lanka's first Buddhist cantata "Pirinivan Mangalya" the librettist was my father Lucian Bulathsinhala which an adaptation based on a Traditional Text “Baliyaga”. Composed by Dr. Premasiri Khemadasa.
