Process of raw material to a finished product. This is a shifter for an ap4 rally car ready to go and shift reliably!
Having rigid tapping on the mill now makes a massive difference. I get very excited when it’s time to tap some holes!
Finding some parts within a 165mm diameter 4140. Race car parts coming soon for !
Stainless coming off nice and shiny! Small production runs still keep me entertained with improving the process and testing it out to see how I’ve done. More reliability in tool life and holding tolerances at the same time.
Helping the Japanese and Germans get along. Made an adapter to mate an e30 driveshaft to an s13 diff. More reliable racing for
Hitting the surface speed just perfectly. Watching the plastic stack itself up.
It’s a great feeling holding relatively tight tolerances on an older machine. Snap run of parts but very happy with how they are coming out. Can’t beat old iron!
Good help is getting harder and harder to find. Barely even watching the part run!
Turning P20 tool steel into nice blue piles! Always good to see the heat from the cut going into the chips 🍟 🔥
Mill and lathe running together today. Home shop has been a huge advantage during the lockdown! Keep the parts coming through.
Love the feeling when a part finally show itself from the raw material. Race car parts here we come.
First parts in the new shop! Let’s see if I can dig it out of this chunk of aluminium ⛏
My machines moved to their new home today. Never easy seeing 3000 kg of iron and steel hanging in the air! Thanks very much for the help .mapleconstruction

Little stainless adapter finished up. M33.5x2 and M40x2 threads just to keep things interesting!
Turning 304 stainless into shiny pieces. Very happy with the finish and nice quiet cuts
Custom stainless shock spacers for a rally Subaru. Turned around 2 hours after the call as rush for an upcoming rally. Always nice to help out Motorsport when I can!
Getting everything warmed up, including myself. Love a cup of tea in the shop on a cold Saturday morning!
Turning down some screw heads tonight. Very simple but perfect for the Hardinge lathe! No more than you need.
Some plate work today. Just watch it go around and around...
Some custom fixtures for a transmission dyno heading off to BD Diesel Performance in Canada. Quick turn around and on a plane so they can get testing! Always fun to help out the automotive industry and these guys are making some serious power with their trucks! If there are any international inquires let us know, we are happy to accommodate no matter where you are located.
When the guilty goat breaks the gate latch why not overdo it? New stainless gate latch, 15mm hex bar turned down to work. Goat..... resistant (nothing is purely goat proof)
This is a real cow's tail skeleton next to a plastic model I designed and got made in plastic and rubber. The "fake" skeleton is in the front and helps farmers understand how delicate a cows tail can be when being handled. Much more robust than the bone of the original.
Got the opportunity to design 3D models, create the CAM and cut out the part. Finally I was able to see the casted piece come out. Very rarely do you get to see the entire process all the way through but its a great feeling!
This titanium chainring from 6AL-4V was a project for myself. Have been mountain biking for most of my life and always wanted to make parts for myself. It's about time I got it done!
Small hand tools for a customer to assemble their parts. Happy with the finish and the small engravings to ensure they don't get confused with similar tooling
Some aluminium mould work. Love the rainbow colouring from the small step over finish and the CAM program
Finished parts from the last video post. They turned to a nice smooth finish! Hardened 4140 material
When you have lathe work, but the lathe is tied up, I made do! Tricked ya didnt I?
Some big plate work for the machine. Doesn't quite fit on the table but that didn't stop me from getting it done! Need to be versatile in this industry
When you need to make threads on very hard materials or with accurate tolerances I love thread milling. It's also mesmerizing to watch
Always love seeing this machine plow away aluminium into little chips!
Small batch of 4140 steel parts. Always aim to get a nice shiny finish on these
Roughing out the mould from the previous post. Machine is just humming along
These hardened steel moulds were very delicate work. Lots of time taken to make sure they are to spec. Lots of metal chips were also made when roughing them out!
I really enjoy making small scale parts, they provide a unique challenge. This mould half will make many more parts to come
Plastics can make a bit of a mess but the final products are worth the clean up!
