RIP Chris.

Parker Hobbies hosts it’s first Tabletop Wargaming Tournament 10/04/2024

Last weekend, the Hamilton Immortals had the pleasure of hosting Parker Hobbies first ever tabletop event: Bolt Action!

With a rising surge in a local playerbase, the WWII tabletop event took off with fantastically-presented tables and armies. Peter Parker did a write-up on his website, below.

Parker Hobbies hosts it’s first Tabletop Wargaming Tournament Parker Hobbies was founded primarily to improve the accessibility of otherwise hard-to-get painting and hobby products for New Zealand’s Scale Modelling and Tabletop Wargaming communities. Like many of us keen model builders, I personally love getting them on the tabletop for some gaming with mate...

Over The Top 2024 was a hit this weekend, with solid turnout for both Warhammer 40k and Middle Earth. Congratulations to those whom won big, and a big thank you to everyone whom attended and put it together. Some words from our man of the hour, Chris, whom put together the 40k event.

"Big thanks to everyone who attended Over The Top 2024, after a couple of player drops due to sickness we ended up with 30 players.

With some of New Zealand's best and up and coming new players in attendance there were some incredible matches and players on display over the weekend.

As predicted our robot Overlords were dominant with Jonty taking 1st and Ivan taking 3rd, however Chris Voss secured a 2nd place finish for the Greater Good before their new codex drops.

I'd intended to just TO the event but ended up playing to balance the numbers and had 5 of the most memorable and enjoyable games of 40k. So thanks to my opponents even the ones who beat me!

Big thanks to the team that helped me setup and run things during the day and an even bigger thanks to our Sponsor Game Centre for the prizes and the ongoing support of Corellian Factory - their terrain support allowed us to finally banish the dreaded OTT Grey Ruins!

There's always room for improvement so if you have any suggestions please let me know.

Looking forward to next year's one already and I'd love us to crack 40 players, We have an awesome venue with enough space to grow and big thanks to the Cossie for hosting us.

If you have any epic photos of the day please share them! Was too busy rolling dice to remember to take photos."

- Successful "Learn to Airbrush" Event with Peter Parker (Parker Hobbies) and Logan Wallace -

On Sunday, 17 March, Parker Hobbies, in collaboration with the Waikato Scale Model Club (WSMC), hosted an enriching "Learn to Airbrush" workshop. Spearheaded by Peter Parker and Logan Wallace, this event offered eager club members an exclusive hands-on experience focusing on the art of airbrushing 28 mm miniatures. The workshop was extremely well planned and highlighted Peter and Logan's exceptional expertise and patience, earning them heartfelt appreciation from all participants.

In our quest to foster a vibrant community and working relationship between the WSMC and Immortal's broader membership, we identified this workshop as a perfect opportunity to bridge interests. The event was a compact yet impactful gathering, distinct from our larger annual painting competitions, promoting interaction and skill-sharing among members.
Peter and Logan guided us through the nuances of airbrushing, including equipment types, paint selection, thinning techniques, and maintenance protocols. The initial exercises, such as writing names with an airbrush, provided a gentle introduction to the tool's potential, blending humour with learning as we navigated our initial attempts.

The workshop's hands-on approach escalated as participants applied intricate designs to Centaurs and other mythical 28mm figures produced by Peter's remarkable 12K 3D printer. We explored advanced techniques such as layering and blending colours and applying washes to enhance details on the miniatures. These activities demystified airbrushing and showcased its versatility in model painting.

As the day progressed, it became evident that the enthusiasm and engagement of the attendees could have easily extended the event further. The collective learning experience and the newfound appreciation for airbrushing among the participants were significant achievements of this workshop.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Peter from Parker Hobbies and Logan Wallace for their generosity in sharing their time, expertise, and resources. Their contribution has significantly enriched our club members' hobby experience and fostered a stronger sense of community.

Enclosed are photographs capturing some memorable moments from the workshop, reflecting the joy and creativity that defined the afternoon.

This event has set a high standard for future workshops and has undoubtedly paved the way for more collaborative and interactive sessions within our club's activities.

Hi everyone. For those of you interested in the 40k club Champs, please remember to register your interest by midnight tonight.
Additionally, we will not be open this Sunday as there is a working bee amongst the committee to stocktake and fix up damaged terrain.

03/02/2024

Attention all 40k players (whom are current Immortals club members!)

Soon, we will be running our yearly 40k Club Champs alongside our club nights. Interested competitors will play 3 Leviathan Mission Pack games over a 9 week period, with up to 3 weeks allowed each round to organize your games. This is so everyone should be able to move onto the next round without having to wait too long for the final pair to play their game, whilst also having time to fit an evening of dice rolling into their schedule. I say soon, because we cannot formalize a start date until we have enough registered players.

Once everyone in the pool has played their games, matchups into round 2->3 will be decided based on the previous round's victory points, etc. At the end of it, the winner will be recorded and receive a trophy, and of course, bragging rights.

Anyone interested, please register your interest. and submit your army list, by email, Facebook or Discord message to the club page or Daniel Fox, as will the resulting scores of each game.

Happy new year, hobbyists!

Once again, we will hold our annual Painting Competition at the Cossie Club, for which there will be 4 categories:

Greetings. We hope everyone had merry holidays. On the 17th of this month, we gather once again, in wargaming.

21/12/2023

Hi everyone. We are wishing you a merry and hopefully-not-too-sweaty Christmas. We will be closed until 14th January, though you are still welcome to come up and use the space providing you have your own terrain etc, as the cupboards will be locked and duty members will not be there.

Take care!

Hi everyone. For a long time, this club has had a loosely-used 'public' FB group that was freely joinable and posted to. It has proven technically impossible to moderate due to admin never receiving notifications of posts, instances of spam, people unaffiliated with the club using it to promote own interests, etc.

That group is currently being dismantled. At the minute, it is functionally 'paused', meaning that it is read-only and cannot be interacted with. In order to delete a public FB group, the admin must systematically remove/ban members until the admin is the sole-remaining member, by which time the group can be closed, so that will be happening over the next couple of days.

The club will have a new private group, specifically for existing and potential future members, as well as friends of the club, with new joiners requiring admin approval. It is intended to function as an organisational outlet of our social media presence and community, where members can interact amongst eachother online.

This club "page" you are reading this from will still exist, as it is our public 'face' and therefore still used for promotions, wide messages and direct correspondence, in addition to our email address.

05/10/2023

Hi everyone. As per recent committee confirmation, our new club opening hours on Sundays are 2-6, in accordance with the Cossie Club's own new opening hours. You are free to stay afterwards if you are using your own terrain, but 6pm is a fairer time to expect the duty volunteers to stay until, so that is when your games should wrap up and pack up by.

Thank you :)

Good morning everyone,

The club is met with an exciting, potential opportunity to secure additional funding for our gaming assets and infrastructure improvements. This is through an application for a mental health funding grant, towards which we have made inroads with a well-regarded broker. We are not in dire straits, happy to say we are above the black financially, with our memberships essentially paying for our rent now (as Marlin's treasury report at the AGM would show). However we would still love to be able to significantly improve our infrastructure, specifically tabletop terrain, storage for such, and assistance with our facility hire, enabling us to offer a highly attractive environment and gaming platforms. This is NOT a replacement for running events, in fact this will only make future events even more attractive.

To this end we humbly request any of our members whom are willing, to submit a personal affidavit as to how our club has positively impacted their mental health journey and re-integration into society especially in post-lockdown times. Putting your name to these will significantly enhance our chances at success, so if you are willing, it would be greatly appreciated. We have been thrilled to hear comments about this in passing however should you be inclined to put something in writing for us, this could see a significant general boost to our beloved gaming space as a whole.

We are meeting with our consultants on this Wednesday evening, so would those inclined please submit these letters to our page inbox or our club email: [email protected]

07/08/2023

On behalf of the committee, a big thankyou is owed to the people whom promptly offered their time for the upcoming Football games. We have been notified that the numbers needed have been reached, so we will not be able to take on any more helpers.

With the proceeds we're told to be receiving, we can see some much needed and well-deserved improvements to some of our gaming assets and it will be because you helped make it so.

Shoutouts to the two Chris's ("What about second Chris?" I hear you ask), Kevin, Lexi, Teina, Sara and anyone else whom sent an email but for whom spots were already locked.
