#15 Case closed - Firetruck🔥 This cake was for a young boy turning 3 tomorrow. He was in the back of the car when it was picked up and his little face lit up in awe😮 It is the best part of doing this. This cake was donated by the wonderful Deborah Gibson. This cake was made in collaboration with AnnaLee got lots of cool tips when she made the awesome firetruck.
Cake details - 6” Chocolate cake with dark chocolate ganache filling and a white chocolate ganache finish. Fondant truck and painted details.

Found time in my crazy day to bake, so tried my hand at making a inspired cake today!

Wanted to keep this semi naked cake looking simple but with some kick ass flavours.

Lemon cake with creamcheese buttercream. Filled with swirls of raspberry and lemon curd.

Just found this mermaid faultline cake I had done months ago just chilling out in my photos! 😍

Made this cool 3 tier last night after work/ early hours of this morning. Then delivered it on my lunch break today 😱

As you know my year so far has been a bit of a whirlwind and I also recently accepted a job at my favourite supply store Sweet Pea Parties

I have since decided that because I’m so busy there and I love working there SO MUCH that my Cakes by Anna-Lee fb page will be put on the back burner until further notice.

I’m still keen to do one or two cakes on the weekends but would prefer to do cakes that would help me take my decorating skills to exciting, inspirational new levels instead of doing the quick, last minute easy jobs.
So if you would be happy to give me creative control and do some exciting, different work for you please get in contact with me ❤️❤️
Of course I’d be willing to take into consideration themes/fave flavours/budget etc.

*Super personal post with a tiny mention of wedding cake 🤣🤣🤣*

So this weekend I had the honour of making a wedding cake in Wellington for my friend Julia and her now husband Yang ❤️

Whenever someone comments on how I became so creative with my work, my origin story always goes all the way back to my childhood with my amazing best friend since we were little 5 year olds. We were the nerdy art kids. We were the kids that made our poor parents drop us off to school at 7am for our special art programs.
We were the ones tracing Pokémon pictures in class, creating cool borders in our homework books, making customised bubblegum kids for our class year books etc.
And I think it’s so awesome that we have both gone into creative careers... me with cake decorating, her with graphic design.

The wedding was at Boomrock overlooking the tip of the South Island. The whole event was 100% her... she made her own dress, the calligraphy on everything, the design of their wedding rings, the dried flowers etc!
AMAAAAAZING!
Watching her walk down the aisle and her well up in happy tears through everyone’s speeches was a ridiculously emotional time for me. I think even though we don’t get to catch up much anymore, I still have that emotional childhood attachment so when she cries, I’m crying like a total baby too 😂😂

The cake itself was a simple yet delicious 2 tier buttercream lemon and chocolate cakes. I get so many comments of how people love my cakes but I find attending weddings that I bake for soooo much more stressful because then you have 50 individual people judging you in front of you, which totally happened btw 😬 but the plates were emptied, the feedback was great and a few of us got sneaky seconds
And funnily enough, I was so wrapped up in the day that I only got a picture of the finished result on the kitchen bench 😂😂😂


I just want to say a MASSIVE thank you to EVERYONE who helped me play a part in this amazing day.
To Julia and Yang. Your wedding was beautiful, unique, special, amazing and thank you for allowing me to be a part of it.
Thank you to Simon for taking me back and forth to help deliver it.
Thank you to Amy and Allan who took me under their wing for the day.
Thank you to all the new friends I met along the way!
And a super huge thank you to my lovely friend Justin who gave me the full tourist treatment for 3 of the days.
I really appreciate everyone who played a part of this. You all made me fall in love with Wellington and I’m dying to go back already

The competition cake table

Won second place today at the Waikato Show Homegrown Harvest cake decorating competition.

This 4 tier cake was hand painted in two different purple tones, a hot pink and a carmine red inspired by Middle Eastern decor which are absolutely vibrant and I thought would offset the white of the flowers quite nicely.

The textures were intentional, and to make it pop just a little more I airbrushed a gold paisley print all around it.

The flowers are all handmade edible fondant. The dahlias holding between 50-70 individual petals alone.

I started this cake a week ago, spending a couple of hours each day working on it. I’m so proud of this cake and being able to create edible art is what I live for.

Throwback to last years bunny cake!

Hey guys! Long time no hear! Haha
Just thought I’d let you know I will be transitioning back this week. Have quite a bit to go through so I appreciate your patience ❤️

Since today is the 1st of April, I helped my mother with her devious plan to trick her workmates with a tasty looking fake cake 😂😂
The brick is made of foam, which is usually found in floral arrangements and is soft enough to cut.
I can almost taste the disappointment 😂😂

Just letting everyone know that I will be taking some time away from Cakes By Anna-Lee for a while to deal with some very personal things that are going on in my life at the moment.
I am me, I have never been a customer service robot who will sugar coat my time away being for ‘personal reasons’ and leave everyone feeling burnt or curious as to what’s up.

As many of you may know, I started this page as a tool to help my anxiety, PTSD and depression after going through some pretty traumatic stuff a few years ago and up until early this year I was in such a good place where I thought this was all behind me, I no longer have anxiety attacks, the cakes are looking fantastic and life is just good.

Until February when someone started harassing me.
He had contacted me by getting my details off this page or the internet which felt like a massive violation.
My number is on my page for you, my customers to be able to contact me if you wanted a quote or if you had a cake due and wanted a quick response if I wasn’t online.
After repeatedly asking him to leave me alone, and contacting the police, he hasn’t stopped and has sent threatening messages to me and at this point I do not feel very safe. I have deleted my website. I don’t feel comfortable having my contact details easily accessible and I feel 100% conflicted as to how I should run a business in this situation which has escalated my anxiety massively.

I NEED to work on my mental health but I feel a constant guilt to want to make people happy, especially my loyal customers and followers which always ends up with me putting myself second.
But I cannot work on myself if I continue how things are and only give myself 2 days off a month.
So I will be taking the next 3-4 weeks away from the page so I can work on being better.

NOW HERES THE IMPORTANT BIT THAT RELATES TO YOU:
If you have paid a deposit or received a confirmation from me that I will do your cake. I WILL continue my promise and continue with your cake. I will not be cancelling on you. You will also receive a message from me in the next few days with a reminder of all the ways you can contact me.

This is such an un-cool situation to be in and it sucks that I have to make people aware of it. I can not believe that in 2019 guys still feel it is okay to harass women like this.
Can’t a girl just be in business, be her own boss, have a phone number online for BUSINESS THINGS and not have to feel worried that some creep is going to take advantage of that?!

But please know that I am being proactive about my health.
I have spoken to counsellors.
I have seen the doctor.
The police are involved.
And I will be back.

2 years ago I did my first semi-naked cake and I haven’t stopped doing them since 😂

I think Amy's Flowers did an absolutely spectacular job at the floral arrangement for this naked cake! What do you reckon?

Here’s a bit of a twist on the modern semi naked cake with the traditional pillared wedding cake

These pillars had me NERRRRRVOUS on Friday 😱 I think mostly because I had a fear of gravity. Or wind. Or someone touching it. Or me being near it in general 😂

But definitely a new fave of mine. We definitely have it easier now 😂😂 and the veteran cakers would be laughing like pffft girl they easy!
But I love how it turned what would usually be a simple semi naked cake into a tall tower of deliciousness
And that topper is just way too cool!
