White Koru Designs: These designs have four major sections which represent companies A, B, C and D (Gum Diggers, Cowboys, Foreign Legion and Penny Divers) the designs are purposefully in the shape of a circle because they are all connected by being Māori. The colour represents their spirits.
Red Koru Designs: They weave throughout the white designs unifying the companies. This pattern symbolizing the HQ company (Odds and Sods) the colour red representing their bloodlines and Maori heritage.
Manaia: The carved Manaia at the bottom represents Tūmatauenga the god of War. Who watched over these brave men during battle.

A bit different form what I usually post, but this was one of the funnest pieces I've created. The owner of this Canvas is a Guitarist, his guitars all have names and unique colour schemes. So we decided that I would create characters for each of the guitars and in the process came up with a little stories which was pretty entertaining.
It was a real challenge doing each individual character and making the next one just as special as the last, but we were both real happy with the result. I'll be posting a close up of each design so keep an eye out!!

Kei Wareware Tātou
Meaning:
‘Kei Wareware Tātou’ is the Māori translation of ‘Lest We Forget’. The line is taken from Kipling’s poem “Recessional” and is usually part of the ‘Ode of Remembrance’. In New Zealand and Australia, the line is repeated by those who are listening in response. The ode is often recited on ANZAC DAY commemorating those who fought in World War I from New Zealand and Australia.
This canvas is a tribute to the ANZAC’s. Two soldiers standing a hill top at dawn. On the right, one is holding a bugle playing the “Last post” while on the left; the soldier recites the ‘Ode of Remembrance’. The two also represent how New Zealand and Australia fought together, side by side.
The Māori designs are symmetrical to show the unity of the two countries. There are three major shapes. The two on the outside depict a Fern and a Gum Leaf which were worn by the ANZAC’s during the war to acknowledge their respective homelands. And on the inside they combine to form the shape of a poppy, which is worn in present on ANZAC DAY (The colour red was more than fitting). The double lines and triple lines in white are a visual representation of the strength held by these men and women that left their homes, families and friends to fight for a better future.

Jade like the Jade stone similar to the Pounamu, is a type of green stone. Hence the green colour scheme. This is another name inspired design commissioned by Amy in Australia. Again I wont disclose the full name for privacy reasons but this was one of the most intricate designs I've ever done. This is the second dragon I've ever attempted to create and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
Like the Koda design working in my Māori and mainstream illustration style is a challenge. But Amy was very happy with the result and so am I.
I have a few projects on the back burner and I only take on 3 jobs max at a time. So thanks to those being patient.
Hope everyone is doing well.
PM if you have any questions :)

Rūaumoko
Meaning: Rūaumoko, the god of Volcanoes, Earthquakes and Seasons. And to some the god of Tā moko (traditional Māori tattoo). He is also the unborn child of Rangi and Papa (Sky Father and Mother Earth) still in his mothers belly.
This Canvas shows a silhouette that represents Mount Tarawera. The lava vent at the peak leads down to the magma chamber which is the face of Rūaumoko. The right side of his moko has gaps in it to show that he was never completely born. But his scale in comparison to tarawera shows that he is still very powerful. There are also faded designs behind him, they represent the cracks in the ground caused by his earthquakes.

Tangaroa
Meaning:
Tangaroa is the Māori God of the seas. He is the son of Rangi and Papa (Sky Father and Mother Earth). Tangaroa is also the progenitor to the Fish and Reptiles. Stories tell of an everlasting battle with his brother Tūmatauenga, the God of War and of humans. Symbolising this continuing war is the fact that humans go fishing and eat fish.
The overall shape of the design represents a Blue Whale tail fin because of its size and power. The larger koru are Tangaroas arms, legs and what I’d imagine would be his fins. I also put in two dolphins just to acknowledge his children. And the Stingray in the middle symbolises Te Ika-a-Māui which acknowledges another big story in Māori mythology.

!!! New Art !!!
This piece was a gift for a friend and her little family. Their new born baby boys name is Koda, which is Native American for little bear. So of course when I met him ideas started flooding in. The rest of the piece is symbolic to his full name which is on a need to know basis lol. But just know the little guy is adorable.
I've been mixing my Animation/Illustration style with Toi Maori which I've been trying to figure out for years and this was the first time it's worked out and hopefully it wont be the last :)
More coming soon...
