Over the past few months, one of our own has been working towards his Senior Firefighter rank.
He has been putting in many hours and lots of hard work to complete the training needed prior to his course a few weeks ago.
Last week at training, we recognized his awesome achievement with his new rank being awarded on line-up. βοΈπ¨βπ
Well done, SFF Cox! ππ»
π¨βπ HAPPY VOLUNTEER WEEK π©βπ
As we wrap up a week of recognizing and celebrating the everyday heroes within our communities, it is important to also remember those who stand on the sidelines or in the background supporting us in what we do π₯°
Without dedicated friends, family and loved ones to encourage us and pick up the slack, we wouldn't be able to do what we do. Thanks whanaus, you are the hidden heroes βοΈ
To the all of our crew, and the rest of the Fire and Emergency NZ family, thanks for your mahi πͺππ₯
π¨βπ HAPPY VOLUNTEER WEEK π©βπ
From attending call-outs to attending public events, our crew does it all! Next time you see us out and about, be sure to say hello and chat to our friendly team about what it means to be a volunteer firefighter π₯π

π©βπ HAPPY VOLUNTEER WEEK π¨βπ
This week we celebrate our fantastic crews across the country giving up their time with friends and family to help our communities!
Did you know there are over 11,500 volunteers in Aotearoa? All from different walks of life, bringing their unique skills and knowledge to this job ππ»π
This week we recognize our own crew of dedicated people who turn up to their 'second job' at all hours of the day and night to ensure the safety of our loved ones β€οΈβοΈ
Last day to come down and see us at Fieldays today!
Our crew are set up at site E25 and have a tonne of cool giveaways and prizes to be won!
The latest from Lady Firedown... π©βπ

Some of our crew will be on-site throughout the week so make sure you come on down and say hello ππΌ
There are fun activities for the kids, prizes to be won and heaps of useful and lifesaving information about fire safety π₯
A few big days for us with calls this past week mainly due to the wild weather on Wednesday! βοΈ
Remember, we are only a phone call away during these storms. Please call 111 if you require assistance during a weather event or if you see anything of concern, such as fallen trees blocking the road or powerlines down. Stay safe out there! βοΈ

The autumn and winter months often bring weather events and flooding calls for us so this week our crew honed some of their chainsaw skills during training. πͺ
Dealing with trees and branches blocking roadways is a common call that we attend during this time of the year so practicing these skills is vital! π²
We also had a great opportunity to put our new Aust light to good use once again!
Call #29
18.05.24 @ 04:34 medical event, Whatawhata.
Training this week consisted of an exciting new piece of equipment for our new recruits! Our portable dam! ππ»
Holding 15,000L, the large yellow dam is an essential and valuable piece of equipment during rural firefighting. It provides us with the means to collect and contain water in an area where there are no fire hydrants. π§
We also had a chance to deploy our new AUST light to provide illumination for the scene while we trained! π¦
A massive good luck to our Skytower Challenge team who will be taking on the huge effort of climbing the 1103 steps to the top in full firefighting gear! π©βππ¨βπ

Happy Mothers Day π₯°π©βπ
Shout out to all of our incredible wΔhine who sacrifice time with their families to protect our communities.

π¨βπ INTERNATIONAL FIREFIGHTERS DAY π©βπ
Today, we celebrate our colleagues all over the entire world and all the incredible work they do!
We acknowledge all of our members, past and present, who have served the brigade and community with their dedicated work. We also take time to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
It's such an honor to do what we do, and all the support we get from our friends, family, and you, the public, makes it possible for us.
Thank you for your Mahi πͺπ₯
A massive congratulations goes out to our four crew who have recently become urban firefighters! π₯β¨οΈ
After months of intensive training, and a grueling week long recruits course, these four have passed and were awarded their yellow firefighter helmets at training last night π¨βππ©βπβοΈ
Well done to Daryl, Scott, Phill and Cam ππ» great work guys! π₯
π¨βπ SKYTOWER CHALLENGE π₯
It's that time of the year again with the Skytower Challenge coming up for the Leukaemia and Blood Cancer foundation.
Some of our dedicated crew will be climbing the skytower in full firefighting gear to help raise money and support for this incredible organization.
Come on down to New World Te Rapa to show our team your support until 3pm today, or use the following links to donate to a worthy cause β¨οΈ

During training this week, our crews were tasked with several important components to establish a water supply to our appliance pump ππ§
We broke off into several crews to complete each task:
1. Draft water from a static water supply (the river) using a portable pump and suction lengths. When drafting water from a river or lake, we use strainers on our suction lengths to ensure we don't send debris through the pump! π§πͺ¨
2. Create an improvised dam which will be fed by the portable pump drafting from the static water supply. This crew was tasked to make this dam using two lengths of 70mm hose π©βππ¨βπ
3. Set up another portable pump to draft from the improvised dam and supply water to our rural truck which was acting as a 'tanker' for the senario. Our big yellow rural truck holds 3,000L of water! βοΈπ
4. Use the rural 'tanker' to supply our appliance pump with the vital water we need for fire suppression π₯π§
This is a realistic senario that we face when at rural incidents and some vegetation fires. There is not always going to be a hydrant to supply water, so establishing our own water supply and using the resources we have sparingly is vital when it comes to these incidents.
π¨ check out our new Aust light is action too! π‘π¦
Some of our crew participated in the dawn parade and civic service yesterday for Anzac day πΉ
It is always an absolute honor to show our support for our fellow servicemen and women, remembering those who have fallen, and recognizing those who serve our beautiful country π³πΏ
Lest we forget.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them πΉ
What do you do when you see flashing lights on the road? π¨
Please be vigilant while you are driving. Emergency service, such as ourselves, could be trying to respond to calls quickly and safely ππ₯
When you see an emergency service vehicle with beacons (and sirens) on, please ensure you pull over, slow down and/or stop where safe to let us through. Once past, please don't tailgate a responding vehicle.
Our aim always is to keep our crew and other motorists safe while responding to an incident, but we need your help on the road to ensure we can.
Call #26

Call #25
14.04.24 @ 20:47 house fire, Ngaruawahia, transmit 2nd alarm.
π₯ ADOPT-A-HYDRANT π§
Have you ever checked to see where the fire hydrants are on your street and close to your house? In the event of a fire, the hydrants around the area provide us with the much needed water to suppress the fire. π
Finding them is not always easy, especially when they look like this! π€¦ββοΈπ¬
Take a look around your property and see if the hydrant closest to you is clean, tidy and accessible. Ensure surrounding grass is trimmed and it is clear of any vegetation and debris. πΏ
We urge you to "adopt-a-hydrant" in your neighborhood and ensure that it is well maintained and easy to find - it could make all the difference when we are trying to put out a fire! π©βππ¨βπ
Call #23
07.04.24 @ 17:21 structure and vehicle fire, make rural pump one, Temple View.
Call #24
10.04.24 @ 23:45 vehicle fire inside structure, transmit 2nd alarm, Te Rapa.
On the weekend, two of our crew attended their chainsaw course and had a blast! πͺ΅πͺ
As operational support and rural firefighters, we often get called to weather events which may leave vegetation and trees across the road, blocking traffic or damaging property. Having qualified and skilled chainsaw operators allows us to tackle these calls with confidence! π²
This week we had our last training night of the year and to celebrate this year's hard work and dedication we had a BBQ and some brigade awards! π₯π₯©ππ
Thank you so much to all of our members who have shown commitment to the brigade over 2023 and all the support of our families and loved ones β€οΈ
A massive congratulations to all of our award winners for the night, well earned everyone!
