Dani had Kidney Clinic last week.
She has one happy Kidney! Her bloods are stable, her blood pressure was fantastic, her medication levels are on point. The feedback was “Dani is looking so healthy”
We love this!!

Today & Tomorrow Dani has follow up Scans.
She is currently being monitored closely by 2 seperate teams at Waikato Hospital.
We are so grateful for the support from these 2 teams. They have listened to us & some good conversations have been had.
A scan was done 2 months ago & at the time I said “we are not waiting months on end till the next scan” they listened. So today 2 months later she had one follow up.
Our health system is under so much pressure, the staff are under so much pressure, so I just want to put it out there “we are grateful for the care & support we are receiving.

Todays results showed no change, 2 separate dr’s examined Dani & both gave us their positive opinions.
This is what we were hoping for.
Well, hoping nothing showed at all would be fantastic, but hey we don’t live in a perfect world.

At this stage we are opting for no
biopsy/removal due to high complications.

From one scan to the next, no matter the timeframe, years gone by, results…
Every scan is so nerve wracking
Scanxiety really is a thing!

Our family met the Lockley family back in 2011 through CCF when Dani was first diagnosed with cancer & their daughter Aayla was also diagnosed.
We have remained friends & support each other. Now our friends have another fight on their hands with their 22yr old son Paetyn.
We have set up a Givealittle page to help our friends fund a chemo drug that is not funded in NZ. Please have a read, please donate if you can no matter how small, please share. Let’s help give Paetyn as much of a chance of what little life he may have left.

It’s been awhile since I’ve written an update on here. To be honest it gets difficult to know what to write now that Dani is getting older. We need to respect her wishes when it comes to how much we put on social media.

I read these words in the pic below & I thought “wow I love that”.
That is everything we are trying to get through to Dani right now.
The self doubt is creeping in when it comes to school, every day life, her future.
Lately as more hospital appointments get thrown at her it’s the thoughts & brain overload that consumes her. I just wish she would realise how friggin strong she is, how she is such an inspiration to so many.

I’ve communicated with a few mums recently going through their own tough journeys.
As we chat It reminds me to focus on what actually matters, control what I can, let go of what I can’t, do what’s right for our family, don’t get caught up in the P.C world, we make the decisions for our girls.

We said to Dani
*Control what you can
*Let go of what you can’t control
*Make a decision when “you” are able too, there is no right or wrong.

Children/Teenagers going through tough medical journeys are amazing. Not only do they go through every day life, but the added stresses are massive.
These Children/Teenagers inspire me every single day.
I want them to know that so many of us admire their strength.

But did you know that Tina also had a Kidney transplant?
Tina was recovering from a stroke, and intestinal cancer, when her Kidney function plummeted to 20%.
Tina was bearly living, and didnt want to spend life on a machine. A donor Kidney was not likely, and so she signed up for assisted su***de .
Her husband at the time. Erwin Bach decided to step in and test for Kidney donation for Tina. After a successful match Tina finally had a transplant, thanks to her husband, in 2017.

The memories never fade

We thought it was just her personality, it was cute, like she’d had enough and just curl up and nap like this wherever she was. We had no idea inside her abdomen was an apricot sized tumour causing her agony. Poor Jane was too young to communicate the discomfort until the pain became unbearable and our lives changed forever.

Mason’s Transplant went smoothly & he now has a new Kidney😃

After years on dialysis this little super star is now on the road to a different chapter in his life.

As we well know the up & coming months ahead for this family are massive.

Jane was Dani’s Paediatric Oncologist. This amazing women was part of our lives for 10 years.
There certainly was some highs & down right lows sitting in her office. The guidance she gave us as a family was amazing.
This award is so well deserved & we are privileged to have had Jane on our side.

It’s been awhile since I’ve updated on here. That’s because all is smooth for Dani health wise(I really hope I haven’t just jinxed that)
She really is doing so well, she looks so healthy. It’s hard to believe our baby is off to High School next year.

This morning Dani had 11 tubes of blood taken😳
This consisted of her routine monthly bloods plus more for her 3year surveillance.
The Phlebotomist did ask Dani if she wanted to leave her monthly ones for another day.
In true Dani form she said “no I want it all done before Xmas”
Fingers crossed for good results🤞🏻

I did feel bad as I needed my yearly renal bloods done too… mine was only 1 tube

Happy 3rd Kidneyversary Dani…

3 years of taking such good care of your Kidney. You take your medication without a drama, you drink your 2.5L of fluid every day, you understand the importance of your hospital visits & your monthly blood tests, you know your limits, you let your body rest when it’s tired, you respect your Kidney.
You appreciate life on a totally different level, and it really shines through as you go about your day.
Here’s to the next year & many more being “Kidney Strong”
