I’m Caro 👋🏻 My husband Leighton and I (and our daughter Aria) are the new owners of Little Mash Boutique!

I’ve been a Little Mash customer for years, I am so excited to get to take Little Mash into the future and we’ve got some big ideas about what it could grow into. A special thank you to Ren and how she has supported us through the process of purchasing Little Mash, she’s been the best!

I loved getting to spend time in the store and meet some of you before we moved online only. We will do our best to provide you with all of the wonderful things that the bricks + mortar Little Mash Boutique was via our online store, which is going to look a little different very soon… so watch this space!

But don’t worry, we’ll still have a similar look and feel to what you all know and love - why change a good thing, right?

Two more days at 320 Barton Street before LMB goes online only with its new owner Caro! You’ll find me here today + Thursday 9am - 3pm. On Friday Caro officially takes over + I know you’ll join me in watching her take LMB to new heights 💫

I don’t have the right words for you, normally they flow freely but they’re a little stuck in my throat this time. When I took over LMB Xavier was still a baby, he was 18 months old but would you look how big the boys are now - Xavier is 7, Sebastian is 8 and Eli is 14. This little life is all we’ve known for almost 6 years but I think they’ll enjoy having a more relaxed and available version of their mama at home.

I don’t know what’s next for me - I’ve promised myself 3 months rest aside from my work at Waterford Birth Centre 3 days/fortnight. I have lots of little house jobs to do - we’ve lived in our house for 1 year now and our bathrooms are still an awful green, I haven’t finished tiling our kitchen, my front garden is a mess, you can’t step foot in our home office and we never have any food so those are some of my many tasks. I also want to see what Lila Jasmine can do with some time and energy so all of that alongside the boys will well and truly keep me busy.

To my boys Jeremy, Eli, Seb and Xav - thank you for always cheering me on and picking up the pieces on particularly hard days. Everything I’ve done I’ve done with you in mind. I imagine some of my grumpy mum days will be easy to recall but it’s my hope that you’ll also remember that you saw your mum stretch herself and that’ll give you the courage to do hard things in your own lives too. Jeremy, I don’t know where I’d be without you and your overflowing cup, you’ve taught me that there’s always good to be found, you said “just hold on to me babe” and I have, thank you for this gorgeous little life we get to have together. I love you all endlessly and cannot wait to tick yes for parent help, snuggle in bed with you on sick days and freeze on the sidelines with you on Saturdays.

And to you, darling customers of LMB. I got to exist because of you. Thank you for coming back even when you were spoilt for choice. Thank you for sharing your pregnancies, babies, toddlers, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews with me - it was my fortune to get to know you. Maybe I’ll see you on the sidelines, or at the park, or in the supermarket or on those tiny little squares we call Instagram - I hope so because I’m gonna miss you dearly. Thank you again for a truly wonderful 5 years and I want to remind you of our cactus story one last time - ‘Cacti are resilient and resolute, finding a way to grow despite very little nurturing. They represent endurance, tenacity and strength especially in the face of hard times - surviving even when it seems impossible [insert you, insert motherhood]. Likened to a mother’s unconditional love because of its strength and stamina cacti are a reminder that you can cope with whatever life and motherhood throws at you, I believe big in the adage - ‘you’re not given anything you cannot handle’!

We had wee ones pop in early to make bracelets. My BFF swung by with a piece of celebratory jewellery that I’ll cherish. Paris came too, remember her? Paris and her sister Hannah were my first casuals back when they were in high school, Paris has graduated uni and is married now. One of our customers Amy from Oxford Pies bought a special mother’s day pie, an easy dinner this week - I’m so grateful. Some of Caro’s friends came too and LMB’s founder Haley popped by aswell. Haley’s been kind, supportive and always allowed me to contact her, she’s continued to shop at LMB when she’s needed something for little people and I’m still grateful that she picked me. The baton will officially pass to Caro next week who will do a beautiful job at carrying on LMB.

Let’s do it all again tomorrow and Saturday. D

LMB HAS SOLD | and I just know you’re gonna love the new owner as much as I do. This change is an equal mix of sadness and excitement, I have 3 more weeks with you and I plan on savoring every second! Yesterday I walked along the beach and was flooded with 5 years worth of memories and I wiped away grateful tears…

On my very first day we had no power so we traded cash only in the dark. In my first week Tash bought me brownie, this was the first time we’d met in person and she’s taken many, many photos for me since then that are my greatest material possession. When I was ram-raided Jadey Ubered me a hot drink, it sure was breezy without a front door for a few weeks. Lauren and her daughter Frankie grow the most gorgeous flowers and share them with me. Frankie is about to turn 5 but I first met her when she was growing in her mum's tummy. And then there’s Kathleen and Liz - Kathleen has shopped with me from Nelson 79 times and Liz has spent a mini fortune with me and has always allowed me to yak her ear off on her lunch break. I have many, many sweet encounters that are etched in my heart and my mind forever and I feel so fortunate that I am able to look back on this time with such immense fondness!

When I refused to ship during COVID you shopped with me anyway and when I’ve had to put my family first and close you’ve shopped with me anyway. I’ve existed because of you, you’ve made my LMB world spin!

I have the most remarkable friends and family, they’ve always shown an interest in what I’m doing, checked in on me and when they know I’m a little frazzled they’ve swept floors, labeled products, helped with the website, kept me company, bought me food and allowed me their ear and their shoulder. I can’t ever repay or thank them but I’ll sure try.

From the bottom of my heart thank you for 5 years of greatness. My last day is Thursday May 16th and I hope I see you one last time. X

Xavier must be about 6 months old in this photo, wearing the Woolbabe we'd originally purchased for Sebastian. See his little fists? A telltale tired sign for babies! It took me awhile to notice he'd do this when he was tired but once I did I knew all I had to do was start our bedtime routine and he'd go down easily.
