I had the pleasure of visiting the new Woodcut Tools factory in Onekawa yesterday. Dan showed me some bowl blanks that had been cut from large blanks using the Max 3 Bowlsaver.
I was most impresssed by the number of bowls produced and the finish on the outside, straight off the bowlsaver. It goes to show that if you have a really nice bowl blank and don't wish to turn most of it into shavings then the Max 3 will certainly do the job.
I have used car keys to show the scale of the pieces.

So here are some photos from Mike who is never idle, and he has been very busy making beautiful pieces during the lockdown.
Here are his comments....'Prior to lockdown, I had been asked to make several items for friends, so lockdown was the perfect opportunity to catch up.
A platter with a floating ring, changed to a coloured ring at the last moment, made from laminated European Beech. A shallow plate from Ash. A small nick-nack bowl from Weeping Elm. An Ashes urn from Kahikatea.'
Well done Mike, I am sure your buddies will be more than satisfied
with those lovely pieces. KšŸ˜Š

OK so lockdown has been a bit boring and the motivation level is a bit low ? Does that statement apply to you ?
Well not for one of our members -George- who has been exercising the old grey matter during this period.
He has sent me some photos of a jig he has made that enables the drilling into pieces on the lathe in a very accurate and controlled manner. The photo's show him making a handle for a file with some added features in the head.(chopsticks).
The jig is adjustable and has lots of possibilities.
Well done George !!
PS. I would not be at all surprised to hear that he has made a bunch of wig stands during this time as well.

We regret to advise that the Guild Clubrooms and workshop are closed whilst we are in Level 4 Lockdown.
When the situation improves and levels permit, we will reopen to allow our normal services.
In the meantime, keep those creative juices flowing and if you are fortunate enough to have a lathe and a supply of wood at home, keep turning and producing veritable works of art.
We look forward to seeing you all soon.
Stay safe and do all the right things !!

It was a busy morning yesterday at the Guild rooms. We held a tool sale and there certainly were some bargains to be had. A few members left with lighter wallets but smiley faces.
Many thanks to those who donated their sale proceeds to the Guild.
