Thanks to the wonderful Goody Goodness I have some delicious take home hot chocolate kits that you can use to continue the experience at home. All packaging is recyclable or compostable, and the cups are edible. With a dairy free option and cookies, it’s perfect for any chocolate lover. It’s also good to keep kids entertained during the school holidays, it’s a science and food.
I can’t wait to try out some of the delicious looking hot chocolates, I’d love to hear which ones you’ve all tried and loved too.
Mother’s Day can be hard and complicated. For me it’s about the love and connection I have for my Mum and for all the mother figures I’ve had in my life. That love and connection doesn’t have to be biological, I’ve felt motherly care from kind people I’ve had brief interactions with as well as people I love deeply. So I hope that you all have experienced this even once. I also think about my son and my nieces, and how I would do anything to protect them, but I also want to be there to see them grow into the amazing people I know they will be.
This Mother’s day is going to be hard for us as a family, it’s the first without my Nana, who was one of the best people I ever knew, no perfect, no one is, but compassionate and empathetic, loving and supportive, I only remember her ever seeing the best in me, even when I couldn’t.
This is part of the reason I love vintage, retro and antique, because it connects me to items that were looked after and used and cherished by people that lived and loved and may be still around or may not be, but their treasures survive and can spark memories sweet or bittersweet. When I see something that reminds me of a precious memory it has a beautiful meaning.
So that’s why I try to give presents that I hope have meaning for the people I’m giving too. This Mother’s day whatever gift I get for Mum we will hopefully be together and remember Nana.
I hope I have treasures that you and your mothers’ love and enjoy.

Reeeooow! Feeling all freshened up and motivated coming into these shorter Autumn days. My new website has some additional info including how I can help you sort YOUR home, and prices. Along with all the good stuff like my helpful blog posts.
Would love to hear what you think of it!
Trying something new, candles in vintage drink receptacles. The pink ones are pink peony flavoured, and you might be surprised to find that the ones with coffee beans on top are espresso flavoured…..smelled lol. Just in time for Morher’s day. Prices on photos.
And thought I’d mention since sustainability is part of my business philosophy then this is the reusing and repurposing part. Once the candle has finished you have a vintage nice cup and saucer or glass to use too.
Come in and say hi to Kiki, she loves meeting people

Happy Easter, if that’s your thing. If it’s not Happy long weekend. Apologies for not putting this up sooner, obviously not open today, cause no one is, but I’ve gone on a short family get away so will be open again on Wednesday 12th of April 2023.
Honestly I wasn’t sure about posting this. It’s still a subject that I hesitate before I engage with people about.
But you might have been wondering why the shop was closed today, and I am open with people about who I am and who I love in person, so I can do that in a more public place too.
Pride hikoi/March has over the years been many different things, right back to before I was born and people were killed for all sorts of reasons, and to love the ‘wrong’ person was illegal. I grew up in the 80s and 90s, and so what I lived and experienced was somewhat in between being institutionalised and lobotomised for my orientation, and now where I can marry. For the most part I’m a person who lives and let’s live, but sometimes it’s good to be a part of something that connects people. And for me, and the friends I was with, supporting a young person who I am connected to and their friends was meaningful.
I acknowledge that there is a huge diversity of people and opinions and ways of thinking in the world, so I know that some of you might not like what I’ve been talking about, as is your right. However I hope that anyone who doesn’t like it, will do what I do, scroll on past.
Well I went on full holiday mode and thought I’d posted my hours but haven’t. Apologies for that everyone. Shops is closed for me to go on a family holiday and Nick-Nacks will be open again from Monday 9th of January 2023.
This little guy hung on my Grandparents tree all through my childhood and right up until a few years ago when Grandma retired him cause of all the ornaments gifted over the years. Grandma is 97 and still amazing, she remembers more than I’ve ever experienced. I know how fortunate I am to have her and the rest of my amazing family.
This year Grandma gifted me some of her old ornaments she doesn’t use anymore. I am sorry to say people that these are not for sale, but I wanted to share something that contributed to my love of vintage and making sure that beautiful items can be passed on and continue to be loved.
This strange little elf, and lots of other ornaments that hung on the Christmas trees of my childhood were there, on the trees while wonderful memories were made, and most likely some less than wonderful so I now Christmas can be hard. Especially after we loose loved ones, I know myself when my Grandad passed a couple of years ago, and this year when my Nana passed. But as a family we always do our best to come together at Christmas time, not because it’s significant in any other way than being together with the people we love and care about.
So people do you have any Christmas memories or special ornaments or traditions? I’d love to hear about them, cause to me anything that brings people together is meaningful. So please leave a comment or start a discussion about your versions of funny little bauble elves.
Well it’s officially summer so why not have a Hoganort Rupert Summer.
Hogsnort Rupert's Original Flagon Band was founded in 1969 around English expats Alec Wishart and Dave Luther, who met at a Wellington football club and started singing skiffle songs at after match functions. They made the final of talent show New Faces before shortening their name and having a run of three hit singles in 1970 - 'Aubrey', 'Gretel' and chart topper 'Pretty Girl'. They continued to play and record intermittently.
