Welcome to the new page for Alchemy Ink. My name is Hamish, and I’ve been tattooing for five years. I found a deep passion for art and illustrations while attending high school in my hometown of Christchurch. In these early days I was drawn to making large poster size artworks and was drawing influence from artists like Roger Dean and Mucha. It wasn’t until a good friend of mine started working at a local tattoo studio that I started exploring tattoo art and imagery, but I was hooked instantly. Since then I have worked in several different countries, including England, Scotland, Thailand and Australia; and developed a deep love for oriental artwork.

I’m currently working in the sunny Hawks Bay at Blue Lagoon Tattoo Studio located in the Art Deco town of Napier. My style is a combination of blackwork illustration and Japanese, but colour work is always welcome and something I’m excited to explore more.

Outside of tattooing I enjoy travelling and exploring the natural world around us. From this I also find a lot of inspiration for my artwork. Inspiration also come to me from my loved of occult and alchemical artwork. This unique and ancient form of understanding brings with it a rich and diverse collection of imagery that incorporates well into tattoo and is a fun rabbit hole for anyone interested in strange ideas and mysteries.
