Bit of useful information for anyone using E-Loks, Sylvan, Schlage or now Miles Nelson smart entrance locks. Users may be unaware of the passage mode sequence you can enter at the lock, without the use of the app.
Due to the default autolock time of 5 seconds, the sequence is a little tricky to enter correctly, so extending the autolock time in the settings may help.
IMPORTANT! Be sure to press and hold # to take it out of this setting though as it can be easy to forget. This is the main reason why time parameters are set through the app for passage mode.

Let’s talk - Having a spare car key

It’s ALWAYS CHEAPER to add an extra key when you have an existing car key on hand, than to replace a lost key from scratch.
On top of making the mechanical key, many vehicles will require transponder programming, smart key programming, or both!

NISSANS/SUZUKIS- Lots of Nissans will use a smart key (i-key) these are some of the more affordable ones. The majority of them are re-writable and to keep costs down we can often supply used smart keys as an alternative to brand new, even if you have lost your only key.

TOYOTAS - late model Hiaces for eg can cost upwards of $2,000 if all keys are lost and almost double if you see your dealer. But to add an extra key on a late model Hiace could cost from as little as $160.

MAZDAS/FORDS - again, with these guys it’s much easier and cheaper to add keys with an already existing key. If you’ve lost your only key, the diagnostic programming procedure often requires a minimum of 2 transponders to be registered which doubles your outlay.

MITSUBISHI - These can sometimes use very expensive smart keys, especially for the popular early 2000’s Outlander’s. Unfortunately, these older smart keys are not reusable, however, the emergency key insert is a simple and affordable process to clone as a back up key as the vehicle can actually be driven with this.

So we’ve ripped up the old carpet in the front part of the shop and replaced it with the new 😅 . It’s been a long day to say the least. But Kris and I are still married 😁 👰🏻 🤵‍♂️

Tomorrow we will finish the edges and capping, move everything back into place and then continue down the hall.

Kris and I will be spending our weekend tearing up the old and laying down some new carpet. It’s been a long time waiting but can’t wait to see the finished look!

Is Nelson becoming less safe?

Nelson Mayor, Nick Smith has posted tonight about the sharp increase of 46% for reported thefts in Nelson city over 4 years. A pretty jarring statistic for our once very safe town.

One way you can help keep your home more secure is with an electronic lock.

There are many pros to having a digital lock:-

1. No more keys getting into the wrong hands! Just one PIN for all household members. Or assign separate PIN’s to each member to monitor who is coming and going. The PIN’s can be updated and changed at any time. There is also options for biometric (fingerprint) access and wireless scan card.

2. No need to leave a spare key around the house. This is particularly useful for Air BNB/rental bachs etc.

3. Some electronic locks can be linked to your phone where you can be alerted if someone is entering your home while you’re not there.

4. Aside from the safety aspects, Digital locks can add value to your home if you are thinking of selling and of course… never get locked out again!

This was a fun one today! Sometimes you need to think outside the box...

Customer had locked keys in a deadlocked late model Skoda Octavia. I could see the key inside the vehicle but not well. After a good shake of the car to move the key into a better position I was able to read the cuts and cut the key to enter the vehicle.

Hi Everyone!

Just letting you know that we will be opening the shop from Monday at reduced hours, 10am till 2pm.

There are a few precautions we will take to ensure our safety and yours:-

1. One in, one out policy. We will have a sign out front just to remind everyone that only one customer can be in the shop at one time.

2. As you walk in the door you will notice that there is a register for you to sign. This is a “contact tracing” register and a government requirement for us to operate at level 3. All staff and visitors to the shop premises are required to fill out the register. There will be hand sanitizer available after filling out register.

3. We have the ability to accept cash as well as card payments. Cash will need to be deposited into a tray and any change will be returned in the same tray.

4. Our staff will be sanitising surfaces including stationery, seating and Eftpos facilities after each customer. They will also be wearing PPE such as gloves. There is also a screen installed at the cash register for the protection of our staff and yourself.

We really look forward to seeing you all again. If for any reason you can’t make it to the shop or it is not safe for you to do so - please remember kris is on call all hours and can visit your home if required.

This is a really common problem for late model Honda’s. A wearing key can cause damage to the tumblers resulting in a jammed lock.

Here, I have removed the ignition, completed a full tumbler replacement & service and created a fresh coded key shell.

Quick tip for you....if you feel your Honda key isn’t going into the lock, don’t force it. It will cause damage to the tumblers in these types of locks 👍
