Weโve been taking some time away from socials and the event side of things to focus on our business health (we want Sol Markets to be around for a long time) ๐ฑ
If you follow us on LinkedIn, youโll know that we were recently accepted into the โAccelerate Regionalโ programme, hosted by Impact Hub Asia Pacific ๐
We are now part of a cohort of 5 other impact-driven entrepreneurs alongside our local Impact Hub Waikato, receiving tailored support to scale Sol Markets and make the business itself โsustainableโ. Stay tuned for our progress over these next few monthsโฆ ๐คซ

And thatโs a wrap on season one of Sol Markets! ๐
I canโt believe weโre here already ๐ณ Around 2 years ago, this idea of a sustainable market came to me in the middle of the night ๐ก I actually remember waking up like 5 or 6 times to scribble down notes for it on my phone ๐ Over the next 24 months, the idea melted and morphed and it wasnโt until moving to the Bay of Plenty that Sol Markets as you know it started to form ๐ After that point, it all started to snowball really quickly ๐ฑ๐
I made contact with Tauranga Council in June of last year and we launched our first market in November. During those 6 months, there we SO many hours of research and hard work, reaching out to all these different stakeholders and companies, countless back and forth comms with council, and talking to local businesses and stallholders ๐
November rolled around really quickly and before I knew it we were launching - in torrential rain no less! โโก๏ธFrom a really crappy weather forecast at our first market to the ever-changing Covid restrictions, our inaugural season has not been without itโs set of challenges and hardships. But we did it (and created something really special in the process) ๐๐ผ
There are several important thank youโs to be said, people whom without their support, I never would have been able to do this (it really does take a village). To my older brother Sorel who initially believed in my idea and invested in it - thank you for always challenging me to dream bigger ๐ญ๐ To my friend Maria, thank you for always being there and helping me out at every single market, without question ๐ Jade, thank you for snapping some amazing pictures and just being an all round epic human ๐ธ Hannah, thanks for the incredible visuals our Sol Markets audience has come to know and love ๐ค Special mention to Ian for helping me construct our roadside sign - version 2.0 was much more of a success ๐ Lastly, to all my friends and family who have sent kind messages or showed up to a market, your support has meant the world ๐๐ผ
I am so proud of what we have created here with Sol Markets - the community is truly a cut above the rest and I canโt wait to see what we accomplish next ๐ฑ๐

This Sunday we are bringing you something pretty special ๐๐
Having a sustainability market is not just about showcasing planet-friendly products, but about introducing you to sustainable practices too ๐ Thatโs why we are thrilled to introduce multitalented artist Liam Makawe, who will be offering hand poke tattoos at our market this weekend โก๏ธ
Hand poke tattooing is the term used to describe the oldest skin marking traditions practiced by indigenous cultures all over the world before technology and steel tools โ
โWhen it comes to tattooing, Iโm considering how I can have less impact on papatลซฤnuku. Thatโs how our tupuna lived, so โWhai Tohuโ, hand poke for me is a way of sustaining our traditions and papatลซฤnukuโ ๐ฑ
You can find more of Liamโs work at .tohu and
Think itโs about time I introduce myself on here... hey, Iโm Louella, the founder of Sol Markets ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ
Prior to these markets I had zero business or event experience, I just knew that I was super passionate about sustainability and wanted to do something about it ๐ The rest is kind of history... ๐ฑ
Iโll be sharing more about how exactly Sol started over the next few weeks and our plans for the future, so keep an eye out! ๐

Favourite. Market. Yet
Sundayโs market was an absolute dream โ๏ธ I donโt think when I set out to do this project that I quite grasped the community we would be able to bring together, but this weekend I was really blown away by it all
The chill out space you see in this photo happened so organically, with various stallholders generously offering their product or services to the market for free
๐ went out of her way to make yellow and blue bunting (in the colours of Sol) just for us to use for the market
๐ด .hut kindly lent us a couple of their sun shades (again in Sol colours) and is also looking at creating a recycled alternative after our chats
๐ gave us some of their lush beach blankets to lay down on the grass
๐ค and the folks behind actually offered up one of their husbands to play some music for us!
Truly couldnโt have dreamt up a better vibe and group of people if I tried ๐ Did you come along to check us out? What did you think of the atmosphere?
*Also peep contribution! There was a hole in the ground people kept stepping into so they used their sign to cover it up ๐

MARKET POSTPONED โโ
Our market tomorrow, Sunday 6th February, has been postponed due to the rain forecast โ๏ธ
New date announced soon โก๏ธ
What a time to get into the events industry hey!
These last few months have been full of challenges and changes for Sol Markets, and weโve had to learn to roll with the punches (to say the least!) ๐๐ผ From our very first market bucketing down with rain โ๏ธโ to the constant updates to restrictions (including this most recent move into red), itโs been one helluvaโ opening season for us ๐
We are so grateful to each and every one of you who has supported our project and joined our sunny little community - your patience and positivity as we navigate this new space is so appreciated and is what keeps us going! ๐๐๐ป

Excited to share that we have captured over two tonnes of CO2 with ๐๐ผ๐ฟ
When Sol Markets was first dreamt up, the idea was to offer a more sustainable consumption model, championing the efforts of local businesses and giving the public greater access to goods that didnโt cost the earth ๐ฑ๐ But we also knew we wanted to keep our impact as a market low ๐ฃ
Thanks to the collective contributions of our Sol Markets stallholders, we have managed to capture two tonnes of CO2 across our December and January markets! An awesome outcome, well done ๐๐ผ
