Meet Nigel, an awe-inspiring father, and the first of our inspiring hikers to share their experience of how the outdoors has brought good to their life, as part of our 'good things come to those who hike' story-telling series.

Nigel's life changed forever when his son, Logan, was born with multiple disabilities. For the last 20 years Nigel has been faced with challenges raising Logan predominantly on his own. Along his journey with Logan, Nigel stumbled upon a group that introduced him to tramping in the great outdoors. The simple activity of putting one foot in front of the other, admiring the views that each bend in the track reveals, profoundly changed Nigel’s perspective on life.

“I’m his dad. I’m all he’s got. That smile from his achievements, seeing him enjoying life, that’s what gets me out of bed”.

A massive congratulations to all the ladies who participated in Merrell Summer Challenge earlier this month - what a wonderful achievement!

As a brand, we are building a stronger partnership with the Summer Challenge / Spring Challenge events this year as we truly believe in what they are trying to achieve. We align on many values, one being empowering women to participate in activities that make them feel great. Adventure racing/sports can often feel daunting, so making events like these more accessible has meant so many more women can challenge and surprise themselves with what they can achieve.

This year's Merrell Summer Challenge women's adventure race, which was held on Banks Peninsula, took place in the stunning French-themed seaside village of Akaroa. The event comprised of three categories: the 3, 6, and 9-hour events, essentially beginner, intermediate and advanced. All teams participated in kayaking, mountain biking, hiking and navigation. The event is the sister event to the ever-popular Spring Challenge, with key differences being the season and the inclusion of kayaking instead of river rafting.

New to Merrell NZ Race Tekapo is the 🌟 Hang Out Zone 🌟

The Hang Out Zone is a place for people to connect pre and post race and is a great place for any competitor wanting some moral support or just some company at the event. Everyone is welcome and no tickets required. Just rock on up and hang out with other like-minded runners and walkers.
