๐ง Conserve Water Notice - Rangiora
UPDATE: The works have been completed and the water supply has returned to normal. Thanks Rangiora for your efforts today!
As part of the new UV Upgrade project at South Belt, an isolation valve is required to be installed to enable connection of new pipework.
This work will require shutting down the wells and running the scheme from stored water only. As water storage is limited, we are requesting all residents of the Rangiora water supply to conserve water between 7am - 7:30pm on Thursday 5 September.
Please consider delaying any non-urgent, high water usage tasks such as:
๐ง Using the dishwasher or washing machine
๐ง Taking baths or long showers
๐ง Using sprinklers or watering gardens
For more information on the South Belt โ Water Pipe Connection go to: https://ow.ly/Ogvy50TanM7

Weโve received messages this week about chlorine in our water. We introduced chlorine in late 2022 after legislation required us to. All public water supplies need to be treated with a residual disinfectant, such as chlorine, by law.
When we use chlorine we do so at a rate of around 0.6 parts per million (a concentration of about 0.00006%), which is a tenth of the maximum allowable level. Another way to think about this is one teaspoon of chlorine per 10,000 litres of water ๐ฅ
Our monitoring stations continuously monitor the levels of chlorine in the water supply network. Chlorine in the network is consistently within regulated limits and is safe to drink.
You can view the most recent chlorine monitoring results for Kaiapoi, Pegasus/Woodend, and Rangiora water supplies at Waimakariri.govt.nz/chlorination ๐
The Council is working with the water regulator to determine a path forward where our drinking water can be chlorine-free. However, this is expected to take a significant amount of investment (additional to planned UV upgrades), which we would need to engage with the community on through future Long Term or Annual Plans.
