Is just saying "no" really that easy? For me, it wasn't.

As women we are conditioned to be compliant, not muddy the waters or make a fuss, but how does this affect our births?

When it comes down to the wire do we really feel confident enough to argue our point?

When we are in labour and vulnerable do we really know what we know?

If something doesn't feel right "no" should be a full sentence but, the truth is when it comes to the current maternal system, most of the time it is not. Our "no's" are heard as "maybes", our instincts are considered "wrong" and our births are classed as "failure to progress".

We can't change how the world views women and their bodies. At least not overnight. However, what we can change is how we approach the birth of our children.

Yes, you can say "no" but do you really, truly, 100% know that you can?

❤️Photo credit to my youngest love, who is REALLY good at saying "no" 🤣

God is there for us to lean on when things get hard, labour and birth is no exception.

When I birthed my second baby, I found being present with the Lord and reminding myself that He is out anchor in all things, helped ground me and bring me peace. Mindfulness or praying during labour can help reduce stress and/or anxiety, help you stay in the moment and present with your body, as well as promote a better overall birth experience. Knowing God is there can be a massive comfort to some mamas.

To help bring peace to mamas who need it, here are some birth affirmation’s that really drive home Gods faith in you and your body.

There once was a birthing mama who was told to be quiet...

Birth is a primal act therefore, primal sounds are perfectly natural and should be welcomed as such.

It's not about forcing these sounds, its about releasing into your body and allowing these sounds to come out.

If you feel the need to make noises do so and, do so without shame! Your sounds are MAGNIFICENT, GLORIOUS and POWERFUL.

Roar that baby down mama, roar 🦁

Birth stories are important. They are how we learn about ourselves and each other. Once upon a time all women shared their experiences with one another. We all learned from our mothers and our mothers mothers. So, I thought it fitting to start off my Doula journey with sharing mine. I would like to say I am mostly healed from my birth trauma but, writing MY story from MY perspective went a long in continuing to heal those wounds. I offer you, with a humbled heart.... Scarlett and I.

What to do if you are overdue...

Induction is not as clear cut as it seems. Do your research, use your intuition and make a choice that is right for you.
