RAT and PCR testing explained..... Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) - looks for proteins (called antigens) that are found on the surface of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. These proteins are only present if you have an ACTIVE COVID-19 infection. Because RATs don't test the genetic material of the virus, a positive RAT, must be followed up with a PCR test. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) - this test is highly accurate and is able to detect even small amounts of genetic material, from the virus that causes COVID-19. PCR testing is very sensitive and can pick up the COVID virus - if you have the virus at the time of the test, or even just after you have recovered and are no longer infectious. We will continue our drive thru covid (PCR) testing: Owhata Medical Centre Weekdays 9am - 10am Text or PM to book If you need further info, please contact me.
