A beautiful start to the day 💛
Im having a break from teaching for a few weeks, so time to focus a little more on my own practice and wellbeing

I am so grateful to have such a beautiful place to practice in. On the whenua of my tūpuna/ ancestors

My practice helps me to hopefully be a better ancestor too. Taking time for my health, wellbeing and self-care is imperative to be able to be there for my whānau- family - and students too!

True self care isn’t selfish it is living intentionally, loving yourself so that you can give that love to others too

I look forward to seeing students and wellbeing seekers online again in August!

Yoga is both a journey and a destination.

The goal of yoga is yoga. Yoga means Union. We use the practice of yoga to come to yoga/ union

> Union of mind, breath, body, and soul

We pause Live yoga from Matariki ( new year this July in Aotearoa NZ ) until August. Mānawatia a Matariki, Happy New Year ! I look forward to seeing you on the mat in August.

Hikoi around the roto - everything is shedding for winter. Preparing to use energy on the essentials only. Well played nature.

The first image is quintessential Rotorua to me. At home the fog still hangs heavy - we can’t even see the lake!

•Yoga- Pūāio - the source of peace - you will get more than a fitness class when you come to Aroha Nui Yoga,
we follow a traditional holistic system that has benefits for mind body and spirit- releasing tension via a range of practices- mindful movement and mahi hā- breathing practices, as well as guided meditation and relaxation.

•Guided relaxation- Rongoā moemoeā - is a de-focus technique that releases stress and can bring you back to your essential self.

•Don’t worry if you fall asleep! Yes it works wonderfully when you are not fully asleep but is still effective if you fall asleep ( maybe that’s what you need right now, or maybe it takes your body and mind a little longer to get used to total relaxation while awake- it’s all good! )

•Let me know how you feel about this practice - do you stay awake? If you would like to know more let me know in the comments or please DM me. 🙏🏼

-Practice encompasses growth - Growth encompasses love- Love encompasses whānau- whānau encompasses practice.

- allow your personal growth to encompass all your values- allow your practice to grow… like your whānau it can change and evolve.

Are you now a mama, papa, nanny or koro, auntie, elder? How has that informed your practice or vice versa?

5 Ways to Relax with Yoga

1. Awareness on your breath helps to keep you in the moment
2. Lengthen your exhale in held poses or shavasana- it can be up to twice as long as the inhale
3. End your practice with shavasana, pranayama, meditation or yoga nidra
4. Take your time, there’s no rush - when everything else is a rush, why rush your practice?
5. Breathe…and let go…

Whirowhiti New Moon 🌚 is a beautiful time for self care and reflection, slow down and practice gratitude for all that you have, the hard work that got you here and the many blessings along the journey. It is the beginning of the new month in the Maramataka according to my tribe Te Arawa. It is a time to rest.

Are sleepless nights becoming all too familiar? Yoga/ Pūāio might just be the tranquil remedy you need. Here are some ways yoga can pave the path to peaceful slumber:

🌿Stress Reduction/ Āwangawanga kore: Yoga’s gentle movements and deep breathing techniques help alleviate stress and anxiety, promoting relaxation essential for falling asleep.

🌿Muscle Relaxation/ Ua tau : Practicing yoga before bed helps release tension in the body, easing muscle stiffness and allowing for a more comfortable sleep.

🌿Mindfulness and Meditation/ Hinengaro Tau: Yoga encourages mindfulness and meditation, fostering a calm mental state that prepares you for restful sleep.

🌿Regulated Breathing/ Mahi hā : Controlled breathing exercises practiced in yoga, such as pranayama, can regulate the autonomic nervous system, promoting a state of tranquility conducive to sleep.

🌿Improved Sleep Quality / Moe Tau : Regular yoga practice has been shown to improve overall sleep quality, helping you stay asleep longer and wake up feeling refreshed.

Our evening classes are a great way to down shift from the day and release stress to encourage a good nights sleep. Pūmanawa begins tonight, dm me for the link or find in bio.
