What an amazing weekend in Rotorua for the BMX World Cup. Was such an awesome opportunity for BMX in New Zealand to host to top athletes from around the world. For me it was a great experience being behind the scenes with the New Zealand team.
Excited to see what the future holds for these athletes.

NATIONALS TRAINING with Andrew Hickey
Andrew Hickey will be proving nationals training at North Harbour track on Sun 3rd, Sat 9th, and Sun 10th March. There will be two training sessions a day based on age and ability. First session 9am ā 11am and second session 11:30- -1:30pm. Limited spots of 8-12 per session. Cost is $90 per rider.

Do you have a passion for BMX and for helping people develop their love for BMX? Have your found yourself as an āaccidental coachā or are you the one that new members to your club turn to for advice and support? Are you wanting to move into this space but do not know where to start?
Then this opportunity could be perfect for you!
In partnership with Cycling New Zealand and BMX New Zealand, the UCI BMX Racing World Cup is offering a āCoaching the Coachesā workshop. This workshop is designed for anyone in the sport of BMX that engages with developing club members (young and older), is motivated to create a safe environment for learning. We invite you to join us for a day of knowledge sharing and will bring a growth mindset and be prepared to challenge some traditional coaching practices.
Coaches and Club āinfluencersā can be the key that unlocks potential, supporting athletes to develop skill and strategy, and grow their understand of the science behind their training and development. They can also play a mentoring role to support the athlete in navigating and guiding them through the sport.
This opportunity will be held on Saturday 3rd February in Rotorua with some practical application delivered at the Rotorua NQM on Sunday 4th February. Participants will also be invited to attend the Official practice day for the UCI BMX Racing World Cup on Friday 9th February (optional).
The day will follow the principles of the Cycling New Zealand College of Coaches curriculum and philosophy but is designed for those beginning their journey or structured teaching. The course will provide a pathway into the Cycling New Zealand Foundation Coach endorsement and will also introduce you to the HPSNZ Core Knowledge Programme.
This is open for those aged 14+ who are wanting to support riders from sprockets through to adult training.

What are some challenges you have faced in coaching your riders leading into World Champs?
AHC
Itās been challenging with the weather and hard to get consistency. Obviously we are training in winter here in NZ and itās summer in the northern hemisphere. The wind has been the main culprit. Also, trying to get my riders adapting to multiple tracks leading into racing.

What race day tips do you have for your challenge riders?
1. Enjoy the experience
2. Breathe!!
3. Whatever is working for you in the motos keep doing that in your qualifying rounds. Itās working for a reason š

Iām running a nationwide Super Cross development program in conjunction with BMX New Zealand
In October I will be running clinics in Mainland South BMX from 2nd - 6th incorporating Dunedin BMX Club, Kaitangata Black Gold BMX,Alexandra BMX Club & Southland BMX Club.
Also Iāll be trying to lock in more clinics in various regions.

Lots more development programs coming online. Pump tracks popping up around the country, playing bike is so important! Itās also really exciting for Rotorua Bmx Club to be hosting a World Cup here next year and seeing our kiwi riders step up to the challenge and brilliant opportunity to bang bars with the best in the world !!
