The competition is taking place in Teahupo'o, Tahiti this year. The MASSIVE walls of water that break on the southern coat of the big island are absolutely memorizing. Watching these talented surfers master the barrels is remarkable!!

I've had a few folks ask "where HAVE you been , Brian" soooo.... Magz and I took a little trip to visit my best friend Steve Fox (whom I can't tag b/c he doesn't follow my photography page) in lovely !
Yep, we spent 4 weeks in one of the wildest places I have ever been.
I'll be tossing up some photos and videos periodically, sharing our unforgettably amazing journeys all the way from to with a bazillion stops along the way.

Silhouetted old soul.

Afternoon walk from our house to the bay-
every once in a while I'll pull out the ol' Fuji X-T1 and 'play'.
I say play b/c I would never take this camera to work- it's not built of that type of shooting.
Folks say Fuji makes a photographers camera. I couldn't agree more. It's not build for speed or hot key usability. Often times there's a few dials to twist to reach your desired exposure. This is where one has to THINK about photography beyond composition. Internally judging light play and exposure values.
Fuji has also taken great care to create 'film simulations' that render film like qualities to you digital image. I thought this sounded kinda gimmicky at first- it's not. It's incredibly beautiful and gives an entirely new sense of chromatic values you kind of lose when shooting thousands of digital images through the same ecosystem of cameras and lenses for years and years.

I've been battling for months over what to bring to Vietnam. Lugging my giant canon cameras and lenses in 65 L backpack for 4 weeks seems silly if not completely stupid.

My reservation is the X-T1 is pretty old and pitching up a 16MP image...thats not great. It's not terrible... I'd love to grip the X-pro3 or even an X-T3 or 4 for in body image stabilization but I also haven't worked in 6 months sooooo.... I'm lucky it's not a notebook and a pencil right now.

There were three rules to which Lange always adhered: "Whatever I photograph, I do not mo**st or tamper with or arrange. Second: a sense of place. Whatever I photograph, I try to picture as part of its surroundings, as having roots. Third: a sense of time. Whatever I photograph, I try to show as having its position in the past or in the present."
But - perhaps her quote “Put your camera around your neck along with putting on your shoes, and there it is, an appendage of the body that shares your life with you.”
I can identify wiht the most ;)
