🌟Another season – What’s happening to my skin? 🤨

As each season changes – this affects our skin.

The skin (being an external organ) is very clever. Having a “built-in” sensory system it will recognise the changes in your external environment ie Temperature changes. Your skin will go through an adjustment process to try to adapt to the temperature changes. Just like “Nature does”. So, it’s not surprising that your skin needs can change as well. Even heating and air-conditioning play a significant role in affecting the condition of your skin.

In Winter we tend to require more nourishment as the skin becomes much dryer. The use of serums such as ceramides are used, or the introduction of a much richer moisturiser.

In Summer a moisturiser tends to lean towards a lighter consistency to allow the skin to breathe to help regulate body temperature and compensate for the higher levels of perspiration on our face. In the hotter months we need to 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 the use of Retinols and AHA’s and other sensitizing skincare ingredients which can develop a reactive state to the skin because of heat and sun exposure. Also, some ingredients can react to chlorine - salt water etc.

Ironically, hydration is affected 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 due to heating and air-conditioning. So, keeping your skin hydrated is ongoing. No changes are required.

What are they?

These are a group of specialised ingredients targeted to lighten darker patches of pigmentation. Whether that be caused by scarring, hormonal, sun damage or trauma to the skin.

It takes a long time to develop pigmentation. There is NO quick fix. That’s because we are not only working on the skin surface, but we are also working under the skin surface. Face capillaries – Why do I have them?

You are not alone. This affects many people male and female.
That red–flushed appearance of the face.

First, let’s get one thing straight – creams will not get rid of broken capillaries (telangiectasia) but certain ingredients can reduce redness and strengthen the skin (collagen building). Stronger skin is thicker skin and that can reduce the look of redness. But it does not unclog the blocked capillaries. The condition is generally permanent and requires treatment to fix it!.

Many factors can aggravate the redness:

No! It is not possible to get rid of enlarged pores.

Your pore size is mostly a result of your genetics. Pore size also increases as we grow older. This is due to the skin losing its elasticity, which causes your skin to stretch and sag, making pores appear larger. Yes, it can be treated successfully, but there is no such thing as a quick fix.

First, we need to determine what caused this annoying problem. Sun exposure will darken any pre-existing pigmentation and ironically can be the cause.
Remember to choose a zinc-based sunblock.

Most common forms of pigmentation are:

Skincare Layering. What is it?

Does it make a difference how you layer your skincare?

Yes! The main reason why is absorption. (Molecules size)

Layering Skincare is based on the consistency of the product. From very light (thin) to a denser (thicker) texture.

Advanced skincare will factor in the delivery system for ingredients to pe*****te as deep as the cellular level. This is where the science behind skincare ranges comes into its “own”. But, despite all the science behind the range. If you apply a thicker product to
the skin first this will interrupt how any other lighter consistency products can absorb affecting the potential results of what the product is being used for.

The Rule is “the lighter the consistency is applied first. A typical order would be:

Mists – serums - lotions – creams – sunblock – makeup.

But be wary. Your skin can only absorb a limited amount of skincare in one session or in one single day. Overuse or over-application does not mean you will obtain better or quicker results. In fact, the opposite can happen.

Is there any difference?
Answer Yes and No!

It is common knowledge that a man’s skin produces more oil due to the hormone testosterone. This oil factor also contributes to open pores and formation of blackheads, clog pores and even Acne. Daily shaving also affects the natural lipid barrier of the skin. This can affect skin sensitivity and hydration. However, an oil problem can occur in both male and females. Other added factors when considering skincare are the working conditions the skin is exposed to. Dust – dirt - perspiration - chemicals - heat and even lifestyle etc.

With age, environmental elements may start to show on the skin surface. This is when specialised ingredients may need to be introduced to address dryness, flakiness, sun-damage, pigmentation and wrinkles.

The Hyper Active Enzyme.

How do they work?

Enzymes are natural ingredients derived from plants. Their main purpose is to sloth away dead skin cells for smoother brighter skin. Less aggressive than an exfoliator but they do so much more.

Exfoliators work on the skin's surface. Leaving the skin smooth and polished in its appearance. Much like using sand paper on a piece of wood. But this process also strips the natural lipid barrier that helps to protect our skin from the elements and retain moisture. And for oily skin, the skin can become even oilier. (why? well that’s another fact to tell!)

Enzymes, however, do not strip the skin of its natural barrier. But they help to smooth the skin by encouraging dormant dead skin cells to sloth away, while also working under the skin's surface. Ideal for the treatment of comedones.

Think of an enzyme like a “Pac Man” running along the epidermis pushing away dead skin cells to the surface, while also increasing cell oxygenisation.

The result is smoother, brighter skin without any aggravation. A huge bonus is that Plant enzymes also remain in the skin epidermis for up to 7 days, so there is no need to use more than once a week!
Can be used all year around as part of your skin routine or book a Clinical Enzyme treatment. The enzyme concentration is much higher. Results are much quicker.
