The Importance of SPF!

Even though we are well into the winter months SPF is still a must!
New Zealand has one of the harshest rays in the world, so no matter the season we must protect our skin. 🔥

☀️ SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. It Is a measure of how well a sunscreen can protect the skin from UVA & UVB rays.

What does SPF help to prevent?

- Sunburn: Sunburn is a clear sign of skin damage from UV radiation. Using a sunscreen with an adequate SPF helps prevent sunburn, which can reduce immediate discomfort and long-term damage.

- Risk of Skin Cancer: Consistent use of sunscreen with appropriate SPF reduces the risk of skin cancer, including melanoma, which is the most dangerous form of skin cancer. Both UVB and UVA rays contribute to skin cancer, so broad-spectrum sunscreens that protect against both are particularly beneficial.

- Premature Ageing: UV radiation accelerates the ageing of the skin, causing wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity, and other signs of ageing. Sunscreen helps protect the skin from these harmful effects, keeping the skin looking younger for longer.

- Hyperpigmentation: Exposure to the sun can cause hyperpigmentation, which is the darkening of an area of skin caused by increased melanin production. Sunscreen helps prevent this uneven skin tone.
