Thanks to the fundraising efforts of Rad Community Trust, we have been able to CUT COSTS and bring you lessons for half the price ❤️‍🔥

Classes available for

👶 Preschoolers - under 5 years, shorter class for shorter attention spans.

😳 Newcomers - never touched a skateboard before, even a bit scared to stand on it.

😏 Beginners - Can push about, wants to learn more basics like dropping in, tic-tacking and kick turns.

😘 Intermediate - Nailing a drop-in, now it’s time to learn to ollie, 50-50 grind etc.

🧑‍🎓Advanced - Let’s get technical! Nothing better than a learning session with yah mates.

👴 Adults - for those 16+ that want to learn or rediscover skateboarding.

Calling local businesses! Want to have your name associated with the raddest thing in town?

We are still fundraising for our ramp build and are looking for businesses that want to contribute. $500 will pay for a sheet of skatelite (speciality weatherproof top sheet), materials, and labour to fit it. The ramp and surrounding walls have plenty of space for your logo, and we are planning a 'sponsors board' to say thanks to those that help out.

Why help? Rad Community Trust is hoping but build a space that can be used and accessed by all. With a coach available during open hours, skateboarding classes and specialized adaptive equipment to make it truely accessible.

We are fundraising as much as possible, but to cover costs of rent, wages and this ramp, we have a long way to go.

Private skate lessons available these school holidays. $60 per hour for one person, $80 for two peeps.

You can see in this photo that one ramp is pretty much done, but the other still needs a lot of work. Each piece of top sheet is $350. Plus screws, plus other wood, plus labour. These ramps aren’t cheap!

Rad has acquired two epic ramps that we’re now on the mission to revamp into a slick set up, complete with fancy top sheet and some awesome NZ first adaptive features.

Our vision and mission is to have this space open for public use by the summer. We want to create a safe, fun, colourful, and inclusive environment that makes learning to skateboard, roller skate etc appealing to all. We want to remove the barriers and get feet on boards!

Our Preschool lessons were amazing this year so we have opened up preschool lessons for each day.

Newcomers lessons are what we previously called first timers, these are for those who are just starting out on their skateboarding journey.

Skateboarding helps with

🛹 Pain tolerance - if you ain’t tripping and falling, you aren’t learning to skateboard.
✌️Stress relief & mental health - release those endorphins!
❤️‍🔥 Precision - theres a lot to think about to get those tricks right.
🛹 Reflexes - you need to have quick reflexes to jump off the board.
✌️ Patience and determination - skateboarding is not easy!
❤️‍🔥 It’s a workout - deceivingly so. It’s great cardio fitness.
🛹 Make friends - skaters love to see other skaters trying hard and having a good time. Let’s celebrate each other and have a good time

We have moved our ‘new’ mini ramp into central Wānaka at Paetara Aspiring Central (aka PAC aka the old Mitre10). Little bit of work to make her pretty, will be a great asset for our lessons starting in February.

Kids have loved getting skateboards for Xmas since waaaay back.

Our mates at Kahu Youth Trust are once again hosting the Northlake Skate Jam.

Thanks to ITM and a bunch of local skaters, we have built a new hip feature to go along with the A-Frame. It's looking LUSH. And we'll be sure to unload the trailer with all the good ramps, ready for an epic day of skating and community fun.

We are 3 weeks into our 8-week course and we've seen some great progression already. If you are feeling like you missed the boat, like you dropped the ball, like a great opportunity has slipped through your fingers... fear not!

We have a small amount of space available in our Adults, Intermediate (Thursdays), Beginner and First Timers (Tuesdays) classes and are offering a shorter 5-week course, $150.

When is Skate School cancelled?

Unfortunately, it's not safe to skate if the ground is wet. Not to mention it's bad for your skateboard to ride in the rain, damaging the bearings and making your components rust.

We monitor the weather forecasts daily and aim to make a decision regarding lessons as soon as it's clear. But, as we all know, a weather forecast in Wanaka isn't that reliable!

A text and email will be sent out as soon as possible if classes are cancelled. A good general rule to follow is - if the ground is wet, class is cancelled!
