Navigating the Storm: How do you cope with Unexpected Business Setbacks

As a small business owner, we know the roller coaster ride of managing sales and income. The last few months have been particularly turbulent, with sudden drops in spending impacting our bottom line.

Today, I experienced a setback—a promo that was supposed to bring in hundreds of sales fell flat. It’s not catastrophic, but it does require reflection and action.

So I did a bit of research to teach myself how to cope

Take a Deep Breath: When bad news hits, your body responds with adrenaline and a fight-or-flight reaction. Deep breathing exercises can calm your body and mind, signaling that you’re safe.

Digest the News: Take a break to let your mind process the news. Initially, we often think of the worst-case scenario. Give yourself time to see the full picture.

Think Positively: Consider the potential positive outcomes. Talking to someone you trust and brainstorm new ways forward. Remember, you’re not alone.

Self-Care: Bad days happen. Make sure to eat well, stay hydrated, and get some exercise. Physical well-being significantly impacts mental resilience.
