Looking for holiday crafty activities before Christmas? Let me introduce you to Builders paper! If you are in Wellington Mitre 10 Crofton Downs sell it by the metre approx $2.50 a metre. Bit of glue, paint ( use a dry brush and little paint) and glitter (cut up some tinsel into tiny pieces) and you can have an activity for less than $10. Make a template for a shape cut out multiple and then glue them together. Or use old magazines and glue enough sheets together to be stiff and them cut out into template shapes. Light dusting of paint and glitter and hang at odd lengths from a rope across the room - best ever!! Enjoy! :)

Another volunteer session at Sustainability Trust “Just Sew” over the weekend. It was the busiest one yet and the opportunity to meet a wide range of people and tackle clothing repairs on their favourite items 😊 Had the privilege of repairing a Kimono purchased in Tokyo with the most beautiful fabric print. Kimonos are traditionally handstitched so kept the garment's integrity by hand-stitching it back together. There was something special about following the work of the person who had used their hands rather than a machine to create a garment.
Sustainability Trust also has a fantastic range of good quality curtain fabrics for $3 a metre and ‘free bin’ of offcuts big enough for cushions.

Another Sustainability Trust Sew session, this time at Victoria University School of Architecture Te Aro Campus. Great to lend a hand and in line with what Mikki Summers is all about. Plus a bonus to meet the other volunteers and students and find out what everyone is doing. The repairs were so gratefully received, and a few garments and bags live for another day 😊
