It's day two at the NZ Institute of Food Science and Technology (NZIFST) the prime gathering for food tech innovators 🎉 We're proud to be sponsors — we’re on a mission to help innovators commercialise ideas that will have a wide impact, and there aren’t many sectors with a wider impact than food.
Our very own Jenny Brown will be presenting valuable insights on leveraging support, resources for diversification, and much more. Yesterday, we had the pleasure of inspiring the next generation of food tech innovators at the Young Foodies event.
You’ll find us at stand #20, and we’d love to connect, so come and say hello! If you’re keen to know more about our support for food tech, you can also reach out here: https://bit.ly/2JLc8Sl
Mānawatia a Matariki! Happy Matariki ⭐ Callaghan Innovation takes immense pride in being part of a nation that was among the first to acknowledge an indigenous holiday. What’s more, the mātauranga Māori that enriches this Matariki season is also sparking innovation unique to Aotearoa New Zealand, through the many Māori frontier ventures and tech-driven pakihi who are increasingly making an impact both at home and globally. So much so that the Māori economy is valued at over $70 billion (and growing). As we pause to remember those we’ve lost, express gratitude for our blessings and anticipate the future, we wish you a restful Matariki.
As a Foundation Partner, we were proud to be at this year's Electrify Aotearoa at the St James Theatre in Wellington. The event united 500+ founders, innovators, and investors to empower women in entrepreneurship. It was inspiring to share insights on building startups, raising capital, and expanding globally. We were delighted by the enthusiastic reception to the presentation by our Startup and Founder Product Manager, Jenny Douché. Thank you to everyone who joined us!
🌊 Wonderful to hear that our customer Water Siphon is set to make a splash at Fieldays this week. They're launching their game-changing siphon-operated groundwater management system and have been selected as a Top 5 finalist in the Fieldays Innovation Awards (Early Growth category). 🏆
Unlike traditional drainage, Water Siphon not only clears surface water but also removes it from deep within the soil, significantly lowering groundwater levels in surrounding areas. This makes the land much more absorbent during rainy seasons, cyclones and flood events. Water Siphon also works in harmony with nature. It’s powered by gravity and operates without motors, which is great news for wildlife and aquatic creatures. 🌍
Find out more and join the launch celebrations at the Fieldays Innovation Hub, site IN41.
Welcome on board Pacific Channel, our newest Deep Tech Incubator Programme partner. For over two decades the firm has supported startups that are developing solutions to global challenges in food, health and the environment.

🚀🏆 Join us in celebrating Rocket Lab, the 2024 NZ Hi-Tech Awards Company of the Year, and their CEO, the newly-knighted Sir Peter Beck!
Rocket Lab's story is a testament to what can be achieved when passion, innovation and persistence meet the right kind of support. The kind that wraps itself around an innovator, listens to their pain points and does everything it can to help them successfully commercialise their idea. We're over the moon to see a company we've got such a deep history with — Sir Peter Beck used to work at our predecessor, Industrial Research Limited, and Rocket Lab was one of our inaugural Sir Paul Callaghan 100 Report companies — keep going from strength to strength.
Congratulations, Sir Peter, from the team named after Sir Paul!
A huge congratulations to Keith Jones, distinguished scientist at Callaghan Innovation, for being named a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours! 🏅
Keith's dedication to metrology, the science of measurement, has spanned over four decades, ensuring accurate and reliable measurements that support innovation, industry, and research. His leadership at the Measurement Standards Laboratory of New Zealand (MSL) has had a profound impact both locally and internationally.
Join us in celebrating Keith’s remarkable achievements and his passion for making a difference through measurement science!
