What makes a good exercise programme???

So many people are exercising beyond their abilities and incongruent to their needs.

This is partly due to media and idioms like 'no pain no gain' and 'sweat is just fat crying'.

But it's also because many trainers are not adequately prescribing exercise to their clients.

THIS is in part (in my opinion) because clients have an EXPECTATION of what they should get from a trainer. Or an idea of what they want vs what they need...

I'm here to challenge that.

Do you wake up with stiff hips? Does your job require long periods of sitting throughout the day? Grab a Swiss ball and give this gentle movement a try. It will help mobilise your hips, pump essential spinal fluid up and down your back, help to bring joint nourishing synovial fluid into your hips and lumbar spine, AND help bring awareness to your pelvic floor muscles and strengthen your abs! * * * * * #core #fitness #strength #coreworkout #hipopener #exercise #homeworkout #health #corestrength #balance #mobility #functionaltraining #healthylifestyle #abworkout #pregnancyexercise #pelvicfloor #backpain #functionalcorestrength #breathstrength #stabilitytraining #stabilityexercise #strongcore #posturetrainer #hipstability #hipstabiliser #chekpractitioner #lumbarpain #chekcoachNZ

"You can't fire a cannon, from a canoe!" - Charles Poliquin Core stability is more than just having a good looking set of abs! Our core muscles are the bridge between our upper & lower bodies. They are responsible for stabilising our hips, ribs & spine as well as bending & twisting our bodies. Too much focus on exercises that make our stomachs look good, without paying attention to the exercises that make our bodies FEEL good, can lead to muscle imbalances that can alter our postural alignment & can even end up WEAKENING the very muscles we need to stabilise our hips, spine & ribcage. Here's an exercise that will increase your awareness & strength of your internal, stabilising muscles! 1) Start on your hands & knees in a tabletop position. 2) With the spine in neutral alignment (natural curves), take a breath in through your nose & allow your belly to drop towards the floor. - let the weight of your organs stretch your bellybutton to the ground, RELAX your belly!!! 3) As you exhale through pursed lips (imagine you're playing a trumpet), draw your navel in toward your spine, push back against your organs, as far as you can, WITHOUT moving your spine (no cat/cow movement!!!) 4) Once the breath is at its end, hold your navel in toward your spine for ten seconds, or as long as you comfortably can without taking a breath (not longer than ten seconds). 5) Repeat steps 2-3-4 up to 10 times to complete a set - Focus on quality NOT quantity. If you loose form, feeling or your you start cheating by moving your spine, stop. We don't want you programming patterns that we'll have to unwind in the future! 4) 1 min rest between sets. build yourself up to 3 sets of the exercise. #becomeaware #beconscious #nailthebasics
