Pablos Art Studio would like to acknowledge the awesome work Arts Access Aotearoa is doing within the Creative Spaces Sector.
As you may already know Arts Access Aoteroa is a national organisation that advocates on behalf of creative spaces to provide accessibility to the arts for everyone in Aoteroa New Zealand. Their team has recently established a steering group that includes six creative space representatives who are working with them to develop an advocacy campaign. The campaign includes several actions that amplify the sector’s voice and advocates for the sector’s many contributions to society.
“Arts Access Aotearoa is working with creative spaces to increase their capability to obtain grants and funding through a year-long focus that is building professional development in many areas, from fundraising to governance,”
- Richard Benge Arts Access Aotearoa’s Executive Director.
Long-term investment in creative spaces vital In 2021, responding to the impact of COVID-19 on the arts sector, the Government through Manatū Taonga delivered $18 million Creative Spaces Initiative funding over three years. Its key aims were to secure employment, boost staff numbers and extend their reach into communities.
A lovely story about us for the start of the year by the wonderful people at Arts Access Aotearoa, whose tireless advocacy for accessibility to the arts is exceptional.

Featured artist Toby Petterson calls Pōneke home. Toby began experimenting with art earlier this year as it has been on the back of his mind for some time. He had other creative interests in the past such as music, writing, presenting speeches and poetry however never made the time to delve into visual art until recently. Toby paints what comes to mind at the time. These are usually reflections of beliefs or ideas about the world based on his personal experiences or travel. Toby aims to create deeper meaning in his work such as the fragility of the world, colours of solidarity or elemental forces interacting with each other. These philosophical ideas have been on his mind for a long time and he finds creating them a way to use his skills in a productive and meaningful way.
Toby has exhibited one of his paintings "Pyramid Blues" in the Fine Arts Academy and is experimenting on paper until he is ready to create more works on canvas. 🙌🍃

Featured artist Victor Young calls Miramar, Wellington home. He never considered himself an artist however after getting cabin fever during lockdown last year found himself visiting Pablos with a friend. He didn't want to learn traditional art however enjoyed having the freedom to play around and explore rather than be instructed. Victor enjoyed looking at other people's art to get inspiration for experimenting with different mediums. He has been working on a book of simple teachings for positivity and happiness. He has been painting on t shirts to create a line of street wear inspired by his background as a basketball coach. These costumes have plus signs to represent positivity and his business name is Victor.y Unlimited.
