Over the New Zealand winter I was lucky enough to spend three wonderful months in Cambodia fulfilling a dream to learn and work in an ethical fashion business .

I spent my time at learning so much about life in Cambodia and what it takes to work with vulnerable women, empowering them through meaningful employment and training.

This was also a time for me reflect on my plans for the future and if this was a path that I could step into.
Lynn, the founder of Morijana, is an inspiring woman and someone who I really connected with so I’m really pleased that she has now asked me to partner with her in a new project!

This means I am saying goodbye to my much loved bridal studio and embarking on a new and exciting adventure.

I will be working alongside Lynn (but still based in New Zealand) to help her launch “The Women’s Collective” .
We will work with other organisations with similar passions to provide a space where vulnerable women are given training to help them find paid employment or start a business.

I will be developing the training program, designing products that the women will learn to make and providing mentoring. We will then be finding markets in which to sell the products and fund the project.

For now though, I am focused on finishing up at my Cuba st bridal studio.
It will be sad to say goodbye, as I have loved designing dresses for all my wonderful brides. A big thank you to you, all, for your support over the years which has allowed me to do what I love.

Lucy and her Sister visited the bridal studio one day after seeing the Josephine Dress online.
They loved the gorgeous Josephine Lace and especially that we were able to make the dress from scratch and modify the design with all the features Lucy loved.

Sophie Voon Bride • Katrina

When Katrina was married at Tata beach in her favourite marine blue it was everything that she had hoped for.
It was beautiful, sunny Golden Bay day and they were surrounded by their family and friends from around the world.
Little daughter Lia had a matching dress to her Mum which she absolutely loved.
Katrina’s amazing flower crown and bouquet were created by blackswan botanicals.

Tayla looked absolutely stunning in her bias cut slip with the Silk Chiffon Harriet top.

This gave her two different looks which she made the most of throughout her wedding day.

Anna came in search of a wedding dress that would suit the relaxed feel that she envisioned for her wedding.

She found what she was after and fell in love with the Calla Lily Satin for its beautiful sheen and the way it hung so nicely.
We made this up in our Olive dress style and paired it with the Aimee lace top which looked stunning on her and gave her the option of two different looks for her big day.

I’m off in sunny Cambodia for the next three months!
It’s been a bit quiet here on instagram while I’ve been preparing for this big trip but I’m planning on doing some catching up while I’m away.
I’m going to be volunteering for an amazing organisation it’s a dream come true to be able to come away and do this and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in next week.
In the mean time I have the wonderful Simone Patel looking after our new brides.
I’ll introduce you to her in my next post.

Kristina had a big group of excited friends to help her choose her wedding dress. They all fell in love with the Swan Lake Dress worn with the Meadow Flower bodice with floaty sleeves, which was perfect for her Kapiti wedding.

It was a full four years since first meeting Monica that we did her final fitting! Her wedding was very delayed due to Covid, as her family in America were not able to get here for some time.
The lace Monica had chosen was the very last of that style, so I had kept it treasured until we were able to work on it again.
It was worth the wait in the end, Monica had a stunning Lake Tekapo wedding surrounded by the mountains and Lupins, in the historic Church of the Good Shepherd.

Kelly lived in Wellington before moving to Perth in 2012 and was a pretty regular visitor to the store.

So when she was getting married she got in touch. Kelly fell in love with the Banquet Skirt and Sequin Top and we made them for her and sent them over.

After the wedding Kelly said “The gown was perfection and I loved wearing it. Thank you so much for making it happen.”

It was so lovely to be able to work with Kathleen over a couple of trips to Wellington and even getting to meet her husband. I loved hearing about their wedding plans and the exciting times head for them.

Cecelia was married on a beautiful spring day on the Wairarapa coast. She wore the Daisy Dress which featured a soft layer of tulle over a silk underlay and a beaded bodice. The dress was finished with applique flowers sprinkling down from the bodice and into the skirt.

Beautiful bride Jasmine had a joy filled wedding after a couple of cancellations due to Covid.
We created an off the shoulder dress in our fully beaded Meredith lace with a slim line skirt flowing into a puddle train.

We loved working with Angela, she had so many ideas and it was fun to distill them down to an outfit that was very wearable and reflected her personality.

Sophie Voon Bride • Kathleen

Kathleen is lucky enough to be having two weddings, one in Christchurch to be followed by another in India.
She found the perfect bridal outfit in our Sequin Top and Banquet Skirt.

For her special day, Zoe wanted to wear a combination of her grandmother's vintage dress and her mother’s dress from 1996 which was originally made by Nicola Screen in Wellington.

Her grandmother's dress was made from ivory silk satin and a delicate lace that I wasn’t sure would still be strong enough to see another wedding through. We resolved this by carefully cutting out the lace detailing from the vintage lace and then stitching this to a more robust base fabric. We recut the Nicola Screen dress so that it fitted Zoe beautifully and combined this with the lace top layer.

Zoe looked gorgeous on her wedding day and it was wonderful to see her ideas come to life.
