Continuing the introduction of new members to the WeZouk teaching team we are delighted to present the beautiful and talented Marcelly
Marcelly (she/her) is a passionate yoga teacher with a degree in Physical Education. Originally from Brazil, her love for dance began at a young age during family gatherings at her grandma's house, where dancing was a joyful tradition. That's when she was introduced to forró. Since the age of 17, she immersed herself in the vibrant social dance scene of São Paulo exploring various styles, but her heart remained with forró. It wasn’t until Marcelly moved to New Zealand that she realized just how essential dance was to her life. In 2019, in an effort to reconnect with her Brazilian roots, she tried Brazilian Zouk and instantly fell in love. For Marcelly, dancing is a true expression of joy and a deep connection to her creative energy and soul. Partner dancing, to her, is about sharing that joy and connection with another person.
We're delighted to welcome and introduce some of our new Brazilian Zouk Teachers to the WeZouk team. We'll be telling you a bit about them over the next few weeks. First up we have Sarah.
Sarah has loved dancing her whole life. She danced ballet and tap as a youngster, and later hip hop and contemporary dance as an adult. At 14 she started aerobics classes and kept up with the trends in dance fitness like Step & Zumba until 2017.
She became addicted to Latin Dance at the beginning of 2013, when she attended Salsa social dancing in Auckland.
Once she started taking classes in Tauranga she quickly moved towards Zouk and Samba de Gafieira. She loved the flow and extended body movement of Zouk, and the speed and technical beauty of Samba. She vividly remembers watching 2 local teachers dance Samba at a class and thinking 'I have to learn that dance'.
She followed her passion for Zouk and Samba for the past 11 years and regularly attends congresses, immersion courses and so many private lessons with some of the top teachers in the world. In October 2019 she spent a month in Brazil to really hone her dance skills and can now follow many Brazilian styles (Forro, Bolero, Soltinho). She continues to learn from top local and international instructors in NZ and Australia.
One of her proudest Zouk moments was winning an Australasian Jack n Jill competition in April 2018 with Jackson Rocha. She moved into Intermediate level for JnJ competitions in 2022.
She started assistant-teaching Salsa, Bachata, Zouk and Samba classes in 2013 in Tauranga. Then head-teaching Zouk in 2017 and Samba from 2018. She helped set up, run and teach at Mount Zouk Fest from 2017. She was also invited to be a guest teacher at a special Zouk Art Samba weekender.
Sarah says Latin dance has changed my life and she loves having the opportunity to open the door to our wonderful dance community to others through teaching.
Congratulations to Lucas Gosling the first of our students to pass the 4 blocks of beginner classes and graduate to improvers 🙂

Back in 2010 I sat in the New Zealand Salsa Congress and watched a performance. A beautiful flowing dance that captivated and entranced me. I knew then and there that I was smitten. I needed to know what this graceful movement was.
Once I discovered Brazilian Zouk, I never looked back. The endless possibilities, the connection, musically, expression. I’d been looking for these things for a long time, and here they were. All rolled into this amazing artform.
After many years of teaching, festivals, workshops, performances, flashmobs, one on one privates with the founders of the dance, my passion is just as strong as that first wonderful encounter.
I’d love to share that passion with you.
