Happy moon festival! This year I went back to the basics and made red bean matcha pastry, taro pastry, mung bean pastry (traditional + vegetarian) and ice skinned taro and mung bean mooncakes. Also for a fun experiment, rainbow mooncakes with sesame and mochi filling. Still figuring out the sesame filling to get the right texture but the taste I'm very happy with!

I saw a chocolate mousse cake online and made some swaps and turned it into a strawberry chiffon mousse cake, which worked out very well! Topped it with jelly instead and it was extremely velvety and creamy, I used real strawberries inside and turned this into a 10 inch cake for good friend's birthday.
Simple 6" taro pudding cake, with a layer of homemade taro cream and another layer of egg custard pudding, for a special birthday!
Had been quiet with the cakes then suddenly 3 cakes needed for the same weekend! Here's galaxy themed cake, 8" rich chocolate cake with cream cheese buttercream, sprinkled with golden stars and specks!

Mung bean paste & savoury filling are all hand-made, sorry no egg yolk option.

It has been a busy May full of cake orders, so thanks to all the support! Last order of the month was this gender reveal cake, 6" chiffon cake with Chantilly cream and taro filling, topped with macarons. I must admit I've made macarons before and they succeeded, but it was a long time ago. After 4 failed batches the night before, I had to call it in, defeated, and sub them with store bought macarons. Felt liked I cheated, and maybe one day I will succeed again with them, but for now, borrowed the expertise of the professionals!

It's cake month it seems, had an order of a 7" Asian fruit chiffon cake, filled and topped with a variety of fresh fruit (omg they are so expensive!) And decorated with Chantilly cream of course!

Had a 6" taro and custard cake order from Elisha, tried to give them more filling and ended up with a cake that's almost touching the lid of the cake box!
This year for my students concert, I decided to splurge on the flavours, went with chocolate cake with cream cheese chocolate and vanilla duo tone buttercream, sprinkled with crushed toffee candy then drizzled with homemade caramel sauce!

New flavours have been added to the menu! I wasn't going to post these until after the moon festival but then got too excited when they came out successful, so taking orders for these until end of September!
These mochi are still chewy even after refrigeration, I would recommend leaving them out to defrost a bit or microwave 10sec before eating for a better taste!

11" Chocolate banana cake, I really liked this recipe and glad they agree! Thank you for your support!
10" (ended up being 11") gluten free vanilla cake with homemade blueberry compote filling between both layers, along with 24 standard vanilla cake with blueberry fillings and buttercream icing. The shells are made of white chocolate!
7" vanilla chiffon cake with chantilly cream, I think my Chinese writing isn't that ugly in this instance! This word has a complex meaning of long life, birthday, year, all that shebang 😅

Attempted a different decoration style this time for the
This year I made chocolate ones in the style of Shaun the sheep and the lemon ones in the combo piping style that's popular online these days. Came out not too badly!
It's that time of the year again and this year I'm making 2 types of cupcakes:
Chocolate cupcake with Shaun the sheep buttercream
Lemon cupcake with paws in floral buttercream
They are priced at $5 each, all profits go to SPCA/Wellington Rabbit Rescue (I usually do half/half) Can also cater for dietary requirements and if ordering more than 6 you can choose your own flavour, let me know and I'll see what I can do for you! Pick-up in Te Aro between 9-4pm on 2nd/Aug (Monday) with arrangement.
