"Dance chemistry is as mysterious as the principles of chaos theory - it seems random, unpredictable, but somehow it works... some of the time.

We all know that thrill (and panic) about walking into an unfamiliar dance hall where we don't know many people.

How can I tell who is a "good" dancer? How do I know whom to go after?
What is a good sign that someone will be a great dance match for me? All questions very commonly asked.

For some people, it's about how the person looks and what they are wearing. For dancers like that, the satisfaction of dancing with someone really good-looking who looks good and smells good is the reward.

For a time, that was enough for me, too. to dance with someone that good meant that I was good enough myself. An understandable emotion for someone who grew up feeling like an ugly duckling.
But eventually, I started craving something different. I wanted to connect with people, and looks were the LEAST reliable indicator of whether I could dance with someone or not.

It took time for me to develop my own "filtering" system, my way of choosing, based on years of pounding the dance floor, week in and week out. It's a natural consequence of just doing it for a long time. You cannot learn or know how to do it right away.

Nowadays, there are certain elements I look for and bet on. Body language and posture are at the top of the list. Size of steps, how they dance the music, their facial expressions and that of their partners... so many things I pay attention to without really even being conscious of it."
The movement and musicality that are somewhat different for each dancer and that I think I could connect with.
