Cats Protection Wellington
Our Wellington shelter cares for cats until they can be adopted or fostered. https://www.catsprotectionwellington.org.nz/
REMINDER: 💥FIREWORKS NIGHT💥
It’s good news for the sensitive ears and nerves of cats throughout the Wellington region, as the rain is likely to discourage a lot of fireworks activity this evening.😸
Cats like Missy (pictured here in the muffled safety of her favourite igloo at the CPW shelter) are easily terrified by whistles or bangs, so we’re hoping for peace and quiet tonight.🤞🏻
For those cats in their own homes, we recommend – just to be safe – that owners arrange to keep them inside, with curtains drawn and some soothing background music to drown out any unwelcome noise.🎶
Special treats are also usually effective at keeping them happy, as well as some calm reassurance from their folks.❤️
Wishing you and all your animals a safe, quiet and fire-free Guy Fawkes Night.😻
🐈⬛🐾 Meet Carlton: Our November Cat of the Month! 🐾🐈⬛
Looking for the perfect chill companion? Carlton might be your new best friend. This handsome, fluffy gentleman is 7 years young and ready for a calm, loving home to call his own.
Why Carlton’s special: He’s as gentle as they come, with a soft spot for head scratches and playtime. Carlton is part of our care for life foster program, due to cystitis & FIV. Therefore, he would thrive in an indoor-only, serene space with patient, caring humans. He will love your pats so much, that he needs to be the only pet! With a bit of time and lots of love, he’ll come out of his shell and be the perfect companion for your quiet nights in.
Looking to bring some extra warmth into your home this summer? 🌞 Carlton’s waiting to meet you!

Warlock is a very handsome boy who was a trifle on the shy side in the CPW shelter. Now that he has the security of his own home, he is finally living his best life!
His new family reports: “Warlock has certainly settled in and will sleep anywhere and everywhere, as evidenced by his fluff. He'll chirp when he wants attention but just patiently sits and stares when he's ready for dinner (or wants you to move from where he wants to sit).”
Warlock moved into a home with chickens, which doesn’t seem to have put him off any types of food... They say: “No correlation between chicken meat and the hens yet…”
IT'S TIME for another episode of CPW T.V!
We have quite a few little stars for you all today.
Who's your favourite this week?
Our Volunteer run stall will be out, this Saturday 2nd of November from 9am-2pm at Newtown School Hall, 16 Mein Street, Newtown.
Look forward to seeing you there!
Welcome to the CPW whānau this week… a tiny ginger lady!
🐾 Clementine (14yo female) came to us from another rescue who had been caring for her after she was found living as a stray.
As a stray girl, it’s surprising how affectionate and smoochy she is! She loves a cuddle, sitting on laps, being groomed, and having all the attention she deserves 😻 She’s a tiny girl, but has a mighty purr engine!
Clementine would be best suited to an indoor-only home with no other pets or children so that she can have the quiet, relaxing time she needs in her senior years 😸
If you think you could provide the perfect home for our precious girl, give our shelter a call!
Two elderly cats have found their perfect retirement homes this week!
Sweet senior lady Evie Bug (13) shot straight out of the shelter before she’d even got used to her new surroundings. The gentle lady had had a peaceful, mostly indoor life, which had included living happily with dogs. She has already been fostered by a new family, who found her so happy to meet them, that they decided they had no reason to wait. She is going to a home with two great guys, a dog and two rabbits, and she will be treated like an absolute princess by her new family. Part of the appeal was that not all cats have lived with a dog before, but lovely Evie had. It sounds like her new dog housemate is just a chill fella, which matches Evie's energy perfectly.
The lap-loving Winston (15) is having another crack at being a foster, after his previous foster home could no longer care for him – not his fault! The affectionate guy won over a group of six people, who have a lovely home with a secure backyard. They all visited him two weeks ago, and Winston loved their vibe. They came back this weekend to secure the goods, he'll be very happy to have lots of new friends to hang with in his new home!

IT'S TIME FOR ANOTHER EPISODE OF CPW T.V!
We have 3 stars for you this week.
A regular fav Bostik.
Bostik is a hard boy to home due to many reasons but the team is committed to keep trying. Over the last 2 years, our team have learnt so much about Bostik, that he comes with his own manual 😸.
He's a great boy who learns tricks, walks on a harness and likes his "me time".
Miss Zoe is a pure white, playful girl who takes a bit of time to warm up to you as she is also deaf.
Miss Zoe is a wonderful girl who entertains herself in playful bursts, loves a brush, laying in the sun, and has THE BEST snores.
Prof. Patches is an old boy with a big heart and playful spirit. He has a lot to say and will make you feel like the most amazing person on this planet 💜
What did you think of Miss Zoe's snores?
Welcome to the CPW whānau this week... a sweet senior lady!
🐾 Still fresh into the shelter, wide-eyed Evie Bug (13yo female) is a sweet senior lady who’s looking for her next cozy lap to call home! She’s all about love, cuddles, and the finer things in life—like being pampered with a good brushing session to keep her beautiful coat looking its best 😻
Evie’s had a peaceful, mostly indoor life, and she’d love a safe, secure home where she can enjoy her retirement 😸 She’s lived with dogs before and could be a great companion in a calm, quiet household with older kids (teenagers are more her speed!).
While she might not be hunting these days, she’ll gladly show off her playful side by giving some bunny kicks to fresh, clean socks! 🧦🐰
If you think you could be the perfect, quiet home for our little Evie Bug, give our shelter a call!
Two sisters have found a wonderful home together this week – it’s yay time for Bullet and Bellini!
Bullet and Bellini (both 6) were surrendered to CPW when their family moved overseas. Both girls enjoyed fusses from CPW people while they were in the shelter, exploring the lounge and deck as much as they could.
They have now gone home with a lovely couple, who are very excited about the new additions to their family. They were greeted with new scratch posts and treats, so we know they’re going to be spoiled in their awesome new home!

We’re so pleased to hear that Slinky (7) is settling so well into his third (and hopefully last!) home.
He was adopted from the CPW shelter by a lovely young woman earlier this month. She had come to the shelter to meet several cats, but it was Slinky who won her over during the 20 minutes they played together.
Enjoy the pix of our happy boy in his awesome new home!
IT'S TIME FOR ANOTHER EPISODE OF CPW T.V!
We got some stealth footage of the elusive but very cute, Miss Zoe. She is deaf so needs some extra time and support. Miss Zoe is a very playful girl who loves being brushed by those she trusts.
Grace is another of our deaf puds. He likes yodelling, being snug, and cheek rubs. He is also known to be quite playful.

Welcome to the CPW whānau this week… three friendly kitties!
Porge, Guacamolly, and Milly Rae all came to us after their owner had to unexpectedly move overseas and could not take them with her. While the three of them lived harmoniously together at their previous home, they will be happy living separately.
🐾 Porge (8yo male) is a big, handsome lad who loves to explore outdoors, so a home with lots of safe bushes to wander would make him a very happy boy 😻 He’s quite an accomplished hunter (even managing to bring down rabbits!!) so will keep your home free from ratty pests. Porge can be independent while you’re at work, but once you’re home he’s a loving snuggly boy who loves nothing more than attention and cuddles from his people 🥰 He can be quite dominant and enjoys guarding his territory from other animals, so would be best suited to a home with no other pets.
🐾 Milly Rae (6yo female) is a beautiful tabby girl with gorgeous eyes. She’s the more nervous and timid of the three, but given the chance, she can show you just how playful she can be! She adores chin scratches and lots of snuggles from her chosen people 😸 She would be best suited to a quiet, safe home like the lifestyle block she’s used to, with no other pets or children.
🐾 Guacamolly (6yo female) is a big ball of fluff and love! She’s a playful girl, who loves sitting on laps, smooching her people, and getting all the attention she deserves 😻 She tends to “growl” while enjoying her scratches and pats which may be intimidating, but we’ve found it seems to be her version of a purr, so don’t let that put you off!! She’s a goofball with lots of little quirks 😸 Molly would be best suited to a home in a quiet area with no other pets. She may be okay with older children.
🩷 If any of these pretty kitties caught your eye, and you’d be a good fit, give our shelter a call! 🩷
A bonded mother and son duo found a lovely home together at the weekend!
Maximus (4) and his mum Zowie (6) came from a family who moved to South Island into a rental that wouldn’t allow pets. Grey Maximus was nervous at first around people, but once reassured and feeling safe, was super affectionate and chatty. Pretty Zowie is also grey but with long tabby fur. She was quite protective of Maximus but also enjoyed playing with toys and being brushed.
Their new person visited several times and was very excited to take the cats home, and happy to let nervous Max relax in his own time. When visiting, she managed to get him to accept pats, which was impressive for a visitor. We know both the cats will do well in their new quiet home!

Welcome to the CPW whānau... our mellow, sun-loving sweetheart! ☀️🤍
🐾 Belka (10yo female) is a gentle, affectionate lady who’s looking for her perfect indoor home. She was surrendered to us when her owner moved overseas and sadly could not take her with them. If you've noticed her missing ears, Belka had a full pinnectomy for skin cancer and also has a moderate heart murmur, but she’s still full of love and life 😸
Belka adores chin scratches and will think you’re the best human ever if you brush her all over 😻 She’s an indoor-only cat who would love to be your one and only, as she’s not a fan of other cats. While she doesn’t hunt, she loves to pounce on her toys! 😼
If you’re looking for a calm, loving companion to share lazy days with, Belka could be the one for you! 🤍❤️
Three cats found their new homes at the weekend, leaving the CPW shelter behind them.
Sox (5) found that being CPW’s office cat has paid off, after six months in the shelter. She came in because she was getting left alone too often while her person was away more and more for work. She has now been adopted by a family of four, which includes a dad who works from home and is around all day to give her the attention and snuggles she needs. She had a bit of a shaky start with an earthquake during her first night, but her new people sat with her afterwards to help her calm down. Enjoy the bonus pic of Sox checking out the garden from a sunny windowsill!
Slinky (7) is an independent boy who has found his third home, being adopted by a lovely young woman. She had come to the shelter to meet several cats, but it was Slinky who won her over during the 20 minutes they played together.
Whistle (6) came to CPW because he was fighting with his brother, frightened of the children, and not coping with a new baby on top of that. He was spending almost all of his time outside, only coming in at night to sleep on the couch. He has now been adopted by a young woman and will live with her, her partner and a flatmate. He will have a beautiful big home and a bushy area to play in.

In this week's episode, we visit Carlton's bachelor pad.

Welcome back to the CPW whānau this week... this lap-loving ginger boy!
🐾 Winston (15yo male) originally joined us in 2019, and is back and looking for his forever home. This sweet boy has had a few homes through no fault of his own—just changing circumstances—and is now ready to settle down for good. He’s a friendly, affectionate cat who adores company and would be happiest in a home where someone is around most of the time 😸
Winston loves being groomed, curling up on a warm lap, and spending lazy afternoons indoors 😻 While he enjoys people, he’s not a fan of other pets or children, so he’s looking for a quiet, one-on-one companionship. He prefers to stay indoors but does enjoy the occasional outdoor adventure. Due to his flea bite allergy, regular flea treatments are a must, but he’s otherwise in great health.
If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who will always be by your side (or on your lap), Winston might just be your perfect match! 🧡

Saving the world, one cat at a time.
Every year in Wellington, hundreds of cats find themselves homeless.
We can help when cats can’t stay with their families, by taking them into our shelter and keeping them fed, healthy and loved until they find new homes.
Our shelter is an airy, comfortable place where cats can choose to relax on big sofas or a sunny deck, or find a quiet hideyhole of their own.
Cats at CPW are cared for by dedicated volunteers who take the time to get to know their personalities, likes and dislikes. This helps us keep the cats happy, and to match them with the best possible forever home.
Our shelter is at 29 Vancouver Street, Kingston, Wellington, and it’s open to visitors 12pm - 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays. We usually have around 30 cats in the house.
If you have any questions or need advice, ring the shelter on 04 389 9668 or send us a message through Facebook. There’s more information at http://www.catsprotectionwellington.org.nz/.
