The College Education & Training branch of the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand (PSNZ) provides continuing education programmes to pharmacists.

Weโre excited to announce that we are running an additional PACT training in 2023. PACT training is an option for pharmacy technicians who have:
โข a recognised NZ Level 5 Pharmacy Technician qualification
โข a minimum of 2 years post-qualification work experience
โข a minimum of six months of dispensing experience in their current dispensary.
Please note training spaces are limited, PACT training sites must meet approval
requirements and there are obligations for both preceptors and trainees.

Pharmacy Technicians Day took place this week, on 17 October, and to celebrate the occasion the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand (PSNZ) is hosting a fun and creative competition for its members. The competition is open to all PSNZ members who work in a pharmacy in New Zealand. To enter, they need to decorate their pharmacy with a theme of their choice to celebrate Pharmacy Technician Day and send photos of their decorated pharmacy to PSNZ by email before the deadline of Friday, 20 October 2023. The winner of the best-decorated pharmacy competition will be announced on 25 October 2023 in the PSNZ newsletter โ Newsroom - and will receive a $100 Prezzy card for their team to use and celebrate their success. INTRODUCTION TO PAEDIATRIC ALLERGIES
Allergies tend to be more common in children compared with adults. The reasons behind a recent rise in the prevalence of allergies such as food allergies, eczema, asthma, and rhinitis are not well understood. In this course, Dr Jan Sinclair, paediatrician, presents an introduction to paediatric allergies with a focus on food allergies, allergy testing, anaphylaxis, and rhinitis. PHARMACY ACCURACY CHECKING TECHNICIAN (PACT) TRAINING PROGRAMME
The Pharmacy Accuracy Checking Technician (PACT) training programme has reached an exciting milestone this week โ 150 certified PACTs are now on the Register! With current pharmacy workforce pressures, a growing number of pharmacies are realising the benefits of having a PACT (or multiple PACTs). We only take applications at certain times of the year, in advance of each training cohort. The PSNZ Education team are working on an upcoming learning module with a focus on Paediatric eczema, seborrhoeic dermatitis and teething rash. We are very honoured to have Dr Diana Purvis, an incredibly experienced paediatric dermatologist, presenting the module. Dr Purvis would like her presentation to be beneficial to your pharmacy practice and has requested input from pharmacists in advance. The Minor Ailments Service (MAS) is well underway, and Te Whatu Ora has started promoting it to the public across the participating regions. We are excited to announce that Teei Kaiaruna, is one of our Speakers at the Societyโs โJust Breatheโ Conference. Teei is the newly appointed General Manager of Iwi Mฤori Relationships in the Mฤtauranga Mฤori Directorate at Te Aka Whai Ora โ Mฤori Health Authority. Starting her health reform journey at the interim Mฤori Health Authority in February 2023, Teei is also the Principal Advisor โ Design, in the National Localities Team at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand. Prior to the reform, she called former Counties Manukau District Health Board home and her time was largely spent advocating for Mฤori and Pacific Health equity.
We are excited to announce that Professor Bob Hancox, is one of our Speakers at the Societyโs โJust Breatheโ Conference. Professor Hancox is a respiratory specialist who combines epidemiological and clinical research to investigate why people develop diseases such as asthma, allergies, and chronic lung disease and to find better ways to assess and treat these disorders. Much of his research is based on the long-running Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study, which has followed 1,037 children since their birth in Dunedin in the early 1970s into adult life. We are excited to announce that Danny Wu is one of our Speakers at the Societyโs โJust Breatheโ Conference. Danny began his career as a pharmacist and has since worked in strategic planning, change management and clinical service improvement in the healthcare sector. Heโs also worked in planning and funding, in provider roles in former District Health Boards and at the Ministry of Health. We are excited to announce that Dr Ngaire Kerse is one of our Speakers at the Societyโs โJust Breatheโ Conference. Ngaire is a GP academic and Joyce Cook Chair in Ageing Well at the University of Auckland. She has clinical and research expertise in care of older people and prescribing is a favourite subject. She has led large projects about wellbeing in older people and medication use is a key aspect. With David Wood she convenes online courses about optimising medications with older people. Together, Dianne and Jan bring over 40 years of experience in practicing and teaching mindfulness to people from all walks of life. Mindfulness Aotearoa work with staff in a range of organisations in the public and private sector, including various District Health Boards and corporate organisations, as well as offering the highly regarded 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course for the public. We are excited to announce that Vanessa Brown is one of our Speakers at the Societyโs โJust Breatheโ Conference. Vanessa has been a Registered Pharmacist since 1999, with a variety of clinical pharmacy experience in Hawkeโs Bay and UK. Previously a specialist palliative care pharmacist, Vanessa joined the Clinical Facilitator team at Hawkeโs Bay District Health Board in 2012. Vanessaโs role is focused on appropriate prescribing of long-term medicines, in primary care, for complex and elderly patients.
