Gene technology update
The Government is updating New Zealand’s gene technology rules.
Gene technology is a powerful tool available to scientists. It has the potential to deliver enormous benefits for New Zealand. As well as economic benefits, gene technology can help solve some of the major challenges our country is facing.
With updated rules we can make advances in healthcare and climate change, protect our unique environment, lift our agricultural productivity, and boost exports.
The Government will introduce legislation by the end of the year, to allow for the greater use of gene technology, while ensuring strong protections for the health and safety of people and the environment.
You can find out more about gene technology by watching the animated video and visiting our website https://bit.ly/4dirGtj
