La resolución 14758 de 1 de Julio de 2021 establece que la solicitud de residencia provisional, o de residencia permanente podrá realizar con tres meses de anticipación a la fecha de vencimiento del carné. Executive Decree No. 198 of May 7th, 2021, published in the electronic Official Gazette on May 20th, 2021, and effective as of May 20th, 2021, creates the Short Stay Visa as a Remote Worker.
This visa will be granted to:
 Foreigners who intend to work remotely within the Republic of Panama for a period of nine (9) months, renewable once for the same period.
The foreigner who applies for this Visa must meet, in addition to other applicable specific requirements, with the following prerequisites:
1. Have a work contract with a foreign transnational company, or be a self-employed worker, in the remote working model.
2. Perform duties that have effects abroad.
3. Receive income from a foreign source and with an annual amount not less than USD 36,000.00 or equivalent in foreign currency.
4. Have a valid medical insurance policy, with coverage in Panama.

Panamanian government passed the Executive Decree 197 of May 7th 2021, which changes the requirements for the Friendly Nations residency program, as follows:

Since August 5th, 2021, Panama’s Friendly Nations residency program will NOT grant permanent residence immediately. Instead, the applicants will be granted a two-year temporary residency permit, and then may apply for permanent residency.

In addition, the economic activity requirement is now limited to two options:
1. Be employed in Panama by a legal Panama Corporation with a formal labor contract and a work permit.
2. Purchase a real estate property with a minimum value of USD 200,000. OO The government allows that property under bank financing can apply.
