Our 9 day trek to Choquequirao in August was a once in a lifetime experience and ITEP managed all aspects superbly. They were highly responsive to any query in the lead up answering questions and being very specific about what was included.

Our team: guide Jorge (Chino), cook Sebastien and horseman Wali were a fantastic team and nothing was ever too much trouble. Sebastian prepared the food with so much love and joy. It was so delicious and an incredible variety, all geared to keeping us fit for the trail. While everything was exceptional, his pancakes, eggplant and llama cornchip guacamole are standouts!

Chino is an exceptional guide who managed the day and our energy levels with humour , as well as explaining the Peruvian history and culture. It’s a hard trek but so worth it.

Looking back I was so privileged to have done it and so thankful for the ITEP team in making it happen for us so easily.

I’d be happy to be a referee for ITEP and Choquequirao at any time.

Most Amazing Adventure Ever

We chose the 7 day/6 night Salkantay to Inca Trail trek. All I can say is it was not even close to what we expected. After reading the website many times and asking tons of questions, which were always answered promptly by the sales team, we were provided an experience that could not have been described on a website. First, we thought we would be in a group of other trekkers like similar companies that made their clients wear their logos on their backpacks the whole way. This was not our case. We met our guide the night before and he explained our trek to us thoroughly. It was then we realized we would be guided through the Andes Mountains and Peruvian Jungles with our own private guide, chef and later, team of 5 porters. We felt like royalty. The hard work and care that this team of 6 people put in to making our trip remarkable is nothing like we have ever experienced.
My boyfriend and I have enjoyed many challenging hiking trips together over the years, but this trek is no joke! Lots of elevation gain and huge steps. Extremely difficult for me but so worth it. Our guide Jorge Sanchez was not only knowledgeable about the area, ruins, culture and hiking but he also immediately got to know how we hiked. He observed our pace and stamina and made changes on the fly to better accommodate our needs. The campgrounds he chose for us were even better than the ones listed on the website. Jorge had an amazing sense of humor that also made our private trip so much more fun. He became a brother to us on this trip.
Now, I haven’t even mentioned the food. Chef Nico created “Inca Magic” each meal. I have never eaten so many wonderful meals in my life. Not only was the food delicious but Nico’s presentation of the food, and table setting shows what a Michelin style chef he is, even for only 2 hikers in the middle of the Andes. There was unexpected snow pack in an area where we were supposed to camp, so a quick revision was made and Jorge and Chef Nico created a space in the snow for the most epic picnic lunch overlooking glaciers. My photos cannot describe the magic that happened on the trail those 7 days but I can assure you that Inka Trail Expeditions was a perfect choice above its competitors that I researched. We thought we were going for the purpose of seeing Machu Picchu via a hiking experience but what we ended up getting was an experience of royalty and Machu Picchu was only the cherry on the top.

Paucartambo - Three Golden Crosses

Midnight we headed towards the Three Golden Crosses camp, 40 km north of Paucartambo, which is situated on the edge of the Andes mountain range at an elevation of 12,100 feet. From Three Crosses, there is a steep drop into the Amazon basin, which means the view is incredible. It is famous for its sunrise in the months of June and July due to the special weather conditions that give optical illusions.

At 05:30 a.m. We wait for the fabulous sunrise, a unique natural phenomenon in the area, entry point to the Manu National Park.

Solo Full Day Machu Picchu Tour

I was feeling pretty down about having to miss out on my original Inca Trail hike due to illness, when I came across ITEP offering a single day tour. Was picked up from my hotel and transported via taxi, bus, train, bus all the way to the entrance to the Inca Citadel. It was a blessing with my fitness levels not being recovered. So with that being said I would say it's do able for all the family. During the tour there's plenty of time for taking photos, explanations of the site, meaning the walking pace isn't too fast.

The day before the tour, I was invited down to their office for a briefing. Jheremy took me through my tickets which had all been ordered to show the clear structure of the day ahead. He also provided me with a number that could be used to call or message anytime if I needed assistance or any problems arose. He was invaluable and put me at ease especially as it was my first time navigating peru public transport.

I was picked up from the hotel in a taxi, taken to a train station, bus to Ollantaytambo, train to Agua Calientes (beautiful views along the way!), where a man was waiting for me with a board to walk me over to the line for the Machu Pichu buses and introduce me to who my guide would be for the citadel.

I can't really add much to Machu Picchu, there's a reason it's a world wonder.

Afterwards you get a free lunch (starter, main, dessert or drink) in Green House ( ITEP's restaurant in Agua Calientes). It was an absolute pleasure eating there. Food was all delicious, presented nicely and the fact that the vegetables are local and organic leaves you feeling nourished and rejuvenating after the long day.

My train back wasn't until 17:30 which gave me time to explore the town and check out the hotsprings and relax (towels can be rented for 5sol next to the entrance)

A short walk back to the train station. 1 train back to a station in Cusco where a taxi was waiting to take me to the door of my hotel.

Everything about the day was seamless and the fact I didn't have to stress about how to get from A->B->C ect was the best thing.

Finding this tour was exactly what was needed to bring me out of my low of missing my original plan

Stop looking and book it!

Jesus our tour guide, Benigno the cook, Genaro the horseman were an absolutely fantastic team to travel with on this once in a lifetime opportunity! This group was so friendly, accommodating and respectful of everyone. The trek is a stunning adventure, but this company and team specifically made this experience one that I will truly cherish forever. Jesus took time to accommodate to everyone’s needs, and even met us after the tour for food to celebrate! He was very knowledgable about the history of the Incas, the mountains and went into amazing details regarding the fauna and wildlife in the area. The horseman and cook were beyond exceptional as far as the delicious food and the comforting wake up calls with hot tea in the morning. If you are considering doing this trek do not waste any more time and go with ITEP! If you can request Jesus and this team, you will not regret it!

ONCE IN A LIFE TIME EXPERIENCE

We were lucky enough to have Yisus as our guide for 4 days thru the trek & an awesome Chef & horseman. I was truly blown away by the food/meals they provided. Everything was so fresh and consistently delicious. The chef was even so thoughtful to surprise me with a birthday cake. Yisus was patient when we didn’t move as fast as others and supportive at the times needed. Mauricio was our guide once we arrived in Aguas Caliente & Machu Picchu. He was such a pleasure! ** Highly recommend to trek with this company over other larger companies. The intimacy of a small group made the experience SO much better. Sleeping accommodations were very clean. Truly a bucket list item completed. I am so greatful for this team. Thank you to all for this very special memory!!

Tour: Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in 4 days
Guide: Thony Montana

The Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 4 days route is along hand-hewn stone stairs and trails through sumptuous mountain scenery and amazing cloud forest, past rushing rivers and dozens of Inca ruins. The zone is inhabited by rare orchids, 419 species of birds, and even the indigenous spectacled bear. The trek begins at Qorihuayrachina near Ollantaytambo- more easily described as Km 88 of the railway from Cusco to Aguas Calientes. The 43 km (26-mile) route passes three formidable mountain passes, including the punishing "Dead Woman's Pass", to a maximum altitude of 4,200m (13,800 ft.). Most groups enter the ruins of Machu Picchu at sunrise on the fourth day, although others, whose members are less keen on rising at 3:30am to do it, trickle in throughout the morning.
