On November 1st and 2nd, Peru celebrates
"Día de los Mu***os," or "Day of the Dead”. This vibrant and deeply meaningful celebration is about honouring and remembering deceased loved ones. Families come together to create elaborate ofrendas (altars) adorned with marigolds, candles, photographs, and the favorite foods and mementos of the departed. They believe that the spirits of the deceased return to the earthly realm during this time, and the ofrendas are meant to welcome and nourish these spirits. People visit cemeteries to clean and decorate graves, often engaging in music, dance, and storytelling to celebrate the lives of those who have passed. This beautiful tradition reflects the fusion of indigenous Andean beliefs and Catholicism, creating a unique and colorful cultural expression of remembrance and love for the departed. 💀🌺🕊️

Peru boasts a rich history and culture, notably showcased in October.
The Lord of Miracles, or "El Señor de los Milagros," holds immense cultural and religious significance, celebrated throughout October, the “Purple Month." The festival centers around a revered religious image of Christ, with devotees parading through the streets of Lima in purple habits, accompanied by prayers, music, and traditional dances.
The most important day of this festival was on October 17th, "El Día del Señor de los Milagros" (The Day of the Lord of Miracles). On this day, a grand procession -one of the biggest in the world- features the massive replica of the Lord of Miracles image, drawing thousands of devotees who participate in or witness this significant event, which includes religious ceremonies, processions, and a profound display of faith. These celebrations not only represent deep Catholic traditions but also feature Peruvian culinary delights such as "turrón," combining faith, tradition, and camaraderie in a remarkable cultural spectacle!

Our Story
La escuela de español El Sol fue fundada el 23 de abril del 2000 por Alan La Rue, canadiense de nacimiento, estudió Ciencias Políticas y Filosofía, y llevó cursos de Educación y Periodismo.
Desde el 2007 asumió la dirección Shirley Manrique, con quien la escuela se ha desarrollado aún más.
Comenzamos nuestras operaciones con algunos profesores, entre ellos: Juan Carlos Morón, uno de nuestros profesores fundadores, y Elsa Verástegui, que trabaja con nosotros desde el 2004. Todos nuestros profesores han trabajado en la elaboración de los materiales, que fueron editándose y complementándose con los recursos con los que actualmente contamos.
Debemos mencionar a las familias anfitrionas que han sido parte importante en el aprendizaje del español y que nos acompañan, varias de ellas, desde nuestra fundación.
Durante estos años hemos sido referentes para otras instituciones, como es el caso de la Universidad Católica, que nos solicita permitir a sus estudiantes de diplomado observar nuestras clases a manera de modelo. Actualmente somos la única escuela especializada en la enseñanza de español, reconocida por el Ministerio de Educación.
