Theodist MBB Marlins Update: U23s Secures Grand Final Spot, U20s Fight On

We are excited to share an update on the Theodist MBB Marlins Rugby Union Club and their recent achievements. Our partnership with the Marlins has brought us incredible moments this season, and last weekend's results were no exception.

Last Saturday at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, our U23s fought hard in a match that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. The game ended in a draw at full-time, but thanks to our team scoring the first try, they’ve secured a well-deserved spot in the grand final.

The match wasn’t without its challenges, however. despite the pressure, our U23s held their ground, showcasing the determination that defines the Marlins spirit.

On Sunday, our U20s faced the Piggies at POMIS. It was a tightly contested match, with both teams matching each other in attack and defense.

Unfortunately, a penalty kick in the last five minutes tipped the scales, resulting in a narrow loss for our U20s.

But the journey isn’t over yet. This Sunday, September 8th, 2024, they’ll take on the Harlequins in a do-or-die Preliminary Final at 9 am at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium. With everything on the line, we’re confident our U20s will rise to the occasion.

Theodist Limited: Proud Partners in Marlins' Success this year

This year, Theodist Limited proudly became the official sponsor of the MBB Marlins Rugby Union Club. Our partnership, which kicked off in 2024, has been all about growth and progress—both for the Marlins on the field and for us as their supporters. Together, we’ve navigated the highs and lows of the season, and we’re thrilled with how far the team has come.

The 2024 season has seen the Theodist MBB Marlins reach new heights. After a tough start with a 43-5 loss to Piggies in the Premier grade, the team, fuelled by determination and our support, turned things around. By Round 18, they had achieved their first-ever wins against both Brothers and Piggies, finishing 5th with 42 points. This is the highest ranking and most points the club has ever achieved, and it’s a milestone we’re proud to share with them.

Our sponsorship has also made a difference for the U23s. Last year, they came close to winning it all, and this season, they’ve come back even stronger. With our support, they’ve remained unbeaten through 18 rounds, securing 1st place in their division. They’ll face Harlequins in the Major Semi-Final at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium on Saturday, August 31st, and we’re all eager to see them take another step toward the 2024 CRU Grand Finals.

The Under 20s have also made impressive strides. Moving from 8th place last season to 2nd place this year, they’ve shown what hard work and support can achieve. They’ll be up against the top-ranked Piggies on Sunday, September 1st, at Port Moresby International School. It’s going to be a challenging match, but we know they’ve got what it takes.

We encourage everyone to come out and support our U20 and U23 teams as they head into these important semi-final matches. Wear red to show your Marlins pride, and show them that the entire Theodist community is backing them all the way.

We’re proud to be part of their journey and look forward to celebrating even more successes in the future.
