A Journey of Determination and Resilience

In the field of education, there are individuals whose stories transcend the ordinary, inspiring generations with their unwavering commitment to empowerment. One such inspiration is Mrs. Vivian N. Pangan, a high school teacher whose journey epitomizes the essence of women empowerment.

From her formative years at Upper Malabog Elementary School, where she earned Second Honors, to her remarkable achievement as First Honorable Mention at Bicol College High School, her academic prowess was evident early on. This path culminated in her graduation from Bicol University College of Education in 1986 with a Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in History degree.

What sets her apart, however, is not just her academic achievements but the challenges she faced and conquered along the way. Coming from humble beginnings and enduring the loss of her mother at a young age, she found herself shouldering the responsibilities of household management while pursuing her studies. These adversities, though daunting, only fueled her determination to succeed.

Her professional journey as a high school teacher began immediately after graduation, when she was hired to teach at Malabog National High School (MNHS). The school became not just a workplace but a nurturing environment that allowed her to thrive as a mentor and a maternal figure to her students. Despite not having the opportunity to be a mother due to her heart ailment, she poured her love and care into her students, treating them as her own.

As a Master Teacher I, Mrs. Panganโ€™s contributions to education are substantial. She has authored numerous Lesson Exemplars in Araling Panlipunan for the Division of Albay and serves as a Division Validator for Learning Modules, Activity Sheets, and Open Educational Resources (OER) Lessons across all grade levels. Her dedication to continuous learning and professional growth is not just a personal endeavor but a testament to her belief in the transformative power of education.

Her vision for women empowerment goes beyond the classroom. She advocates for equality, diversity, and inclusivity, and envisions a future where education knows no bounds of age or circumstance. For her, women are not just capable but committed to excellence and in making a significant impact on society. As such, she has been a staunch supporter of the MNHS Alumni Association ever since its inception and has now taken on the role of Alumni Coordinator.

In her journey, she embodies resilience, determination, and a deep love for education. Mrs. Panganโ€™s story is not just a narrative of personal triumph but a symbol of empowerment for generations to come.

Empowering Women in Education: A Principal's Journey

In the heart of Malabog National High School (MNHS) leadership lies a pillar of empowerment, exemplified by our esteemed principal - Dr. Gina L. Lovino, whose journey echoes resilience, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in empowering women in education.

With roots deeply embedded in education, Dr. Lovinoโ€™s journey began at Lower Malabog Elementary School, leading to Bicol University High School, and higher education at Aquinas University, Legazpi, where she graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering. Her academic prowess is highlighted by two (2) Masterโ€™s Degrees in Counselor Education and Mathematics from the Bicol University Graduate School, and a Doctorate in Education from Bicol College. On top of these are a range of vocational certifications from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Her professional journey reflects her resolute commitment and dedication to the field of education. From a private school teacher to ascending the ranks as Principal III at MNHS, her leadership has transformed institutions and inspired generations.

Her achievements, including the Department of Education-National Educators Academy of the Philippines (DepEd-NEAP) and SEAMEO-Innotech Scholarship Programs, Excellentissimus in Oral Defense during her postgraduate studies, and the title of 2021 Most Inspiring School Head of Albay, validate her consistent pursuit of excellence.

Navigating challenges with grace, she prioritizes family while excelling professionally. Her empowerment journey is articulated in a speech that she delivered during the awarding of the 2021 Most Inspiring School Head, โ€œI hope that I will be an inspiration not only to my fellow school heads but also to the teachers and students.โ€

Through inclusive practices like GAD training, LGBT inclusion, and Womenโ€™s Month initiatives, she champions gender equality, creating an environment of acceptance and empowerment. She guides the school across domains of Access, Quality, Governance, Resiliency, and Well-being, while also advocating the pillars of the Program to Institutionalize Meritocracy and Excellence in Human Resource Management (PRIME-HRM), ensuring holistic growth and development.

Her initiatives, from the Special Needs Education (SNED) programs to Indigenous People support, showcase a commitment to inclusivity and diversity, which empower every student to thrive. She continuously collaborates with various stakeholders to uplift the educational standard and facilities in MNHS, thus ensuring a conducive environment for learning and growth.

In her leadership, Dr. Lovino embodies the spirit of empowerment, shaping not just an institution but a community where the potential of every student and teacher is nurtured and celebrated.
