Everyone knows that the best way to engage a reader is with a strong introduction, and nothing is better than a personal narrative. Not only are nonprofits credible, but part of what makes them so trustworthy is their unique ability to draw from a multitude of impactful stories that demonstrate how their work is improving the lives of real people. Any kind of interesting personal story will do the trick, successful is best – just be sure to include rich and powerful details.

Use all media platforms, but be consistent
It’s not all about media coverage. Social media has democratized the media space and nonprofits now have the ability to share their message with a larger audience in a multitude of ways. Social media, blogs, and websites can all be used to engage an audience and highlight upcoming news and press coverage. To do so, the messaging across these platforms must be consistent, tell a compelling story, and clearly explain what the organization does and why. If the content is scattered, the audience will scatter as well.

Social media awareness refers to the knowledge and practical use of social channels for marketing and promoting a brand. 🤩

There are different levels of social media awareness, but any brand using social media engages in some sort of brand awareness campaign.

Brand awareness is defined as the extent to which customers are familiar with a brand or its products.

It can also be taken to mean how recognizable or memorable a brand is among its target audience.

Great Things about Social Media

👉Social media seems to get a lot of stick these days, whether that’s being linked to an increase in mental health problems, being addictive for teenagers and children, or just downright “anti-social”.

👉While these are issues we should be concerned about and discuss, we can sometimes get sucked into all the negativity surrounding social media and it’s very easy to forget all the good things it can bring to the table.

👉Just for a quick example, I’m probably the most unorganized hap-hazard person you could come across which means I easily tend to forget about upcoming events I would honestly forget my head if it wasn’t screwed on. Facebook means I don’t have a good enough excuse to forget the things that are important to me. If I’m invited somewhere I’ll always see it somewhere when I open the app and I spend a hell of a lot of time on it!

Producers and Consumer in Online Business

👉Producer: Someone who creates supply or responds to demand. If you think of YouTube, whenever a user adds a video, he’s acting in a Producer role, creating supply. A person answering a question on Quora is a producer, responding to demand.

👉Consumer: Someone who creates demand or consumes supply. A video viewer is a consumer on youtube. A question asker on Quora (as well as others viewing the question and answers) is playing a consumer role.

Note that these are roles, not user segments. If you think of eBay, the sellers are the producers and the buyers are the consumers so we have two distinct segments. But on Twitter, every time you tweet, you are in a producer role, and if you start reading your tweet stream the next second, you’ve moved to consumer mode.

Splitting the term ‘user’ into these two roles helps us understand the exact motivations and actions for the user while using the product. Understanding the motivations and actions helps us design tools that enable the users to perform these actions instead of loading the product with features.

Most products have more than one producer or consumer role. E.g. On LinkedIn, professionals using LinkedIn are producers and consumers of interactions and status updates, thought leaders are curated producers and recruiters are producers of job listings and consumers of relevant user profiles.

What are the differences between online promotion and flyer marketing?

Flyer Marketing vs Online Marketing Observations:
👉 Exposure

Flyer Campaigns: Over 220,000 people are living within Naga City. Let’s say that your target market is a fraction of this at 50,000 people. To reach this many people would mean getting 50,000 flyers printed [I’m assuming here that people don’t normally share flyers they get with friends]. So 50,000 flyers at let’s say P4.00 each translates to P200,000 to reach your target market! This cost doesn’t even include the salary of your promotions team, their transportation costs, etc.

Online Campaigns: Online marketing is CHEAP! (That is if you know what you are doing). Using online marketing, you can reach 50,000 people with a budget of just P9,000 – that’s P191,000 in savings if you plan on reaching 50,000 people through flyers.

👉 Flexibility

Flyer Campaigns: Flyers, once printed, are more or less permanent. There’s no editing of errors, wrong numbers, graphics, etc. Of course, you could always have a few thousand flyers printed first but that would mean a higher cost per flyer. I have been guilty of this a few times – realizing too late that we forgot to include one important detail or realizing later on that the flyer’s information has become obsolete.

Online Campaigns: Online marketing campaigns are flexible. As all materials are digital, you can edit errors or change your graphics anytime within the campaign period. Note however that for social media campaigns, photos cannot be edited so all you can do is stop the campaign and start anew. At least in this case you won’t have any leftover flyers. Engagement

👉 Flyer Campaigns: Flyers are classified under traditional marketing for the fact that.. well. Businesses have traditionally used them for marketing and customers have grown soo much used to them. Be honest.. when was the last time you felt any excitement in receiving a flyer when you were at the mall? And out of the last 10 flyers you have received, how many of them did you throw into the trash? The truth is, more and more people are associating getting flyers with negative feelings with some even rejecting flyers outright. In the information age, people have grown used to getting information at their own pace and at their own time – not before. Would you like your initial point of contact with your potential customers to be like this?

Check out the trash bins in the vicinity of your flyer marketing area. Chances are, most will have your flyers in them. That’s P4.00 per flyer in the trash.

Online Campaigns: Online campaigns, especially social media campaigns naturally attract more engagement than flyer campaigns. This is because, in online campaigns, people are the ones who choose if they will or will not engage with your ad. This element of choice generates more affinity with your brand and fewer negative feelings should they choose to engage. Couple this with the social nature of social media networks and you can see that engagement may grow exponentially from fans, and friends of fans, as more and more people are exposed to your ad as it goes viral.

As an example, online marketing campaigns in Naga City that I have run have an average per-engagement cost of P0.50 to P1.00. Note that this is engagement cost, not exposure cost. This means that the cost of finding a person interested in your product or service online is much less than the cost of getting one flyer to someone who may or may not be interested in your business.

👉 Barriers to Distribution

Flyer Campaigns: When you do flyer marketing, you’ll inevitably run into some barriers to distribution. I’m talking about the security guards, the secretaries, and the government authorities who will question your promoters’ right to distribute flyers at certain places at certain times. Try distributing flyers in front of a school and a school guard will eventually talk to you – more so if you try distributing your flyers inside a mall!

Online Campaigns: The barrier to distribution in online marketing is minimal and the only factors affecting distribution are the size of the target audience, the availability of the correct targeting parameters, and following the correct format in posting your ad.

The Creative Way of Selling Products

👉This paper defines a unique type of product or service offering, termed probabilistic goods, and analyzes a novel selling strategy, termed probabilistic selling (PS). A probabilistic good is not a concrete product or service but an offer involving a probability of getting any one of a set of multiple distinct items. Under the probabilistic selling strategy, a multi-item seller creates probabilistic goods using the existing distinct products or services and offers such probabilistic goods as additional purchase choices. The probabilistic selling strategy allows sellers to benefit from introducing a new type of buyer uncertainty, i.e., uncertainty in product assignments. First, introducing such uncertainty enables sellers to create a “virtual” product or service (i.e., probabilistic good), which opens up a creative way to segment a market. We find that the probabilistic selling strategy is a general marketing tool that has the potential to benefit sellers in many different industries. Second, this paper shows that creating buyer uncertainty in product assignments is a new way for sellers to deal with their market uncertainty. We illustrate two such benefits: (a) offering probabilistic goods can reduce the seller's information disadvantage and lessen the negative effect of demand uncertainty on profit, and (b) offering probabilistic goods can solve the mismatch between capacity and demand and enhance efficiency. Emerging technology is creating exciting (previously unfeasible) opportunities to implement PS and obtain these many advantages 🥰 🥰

More importantly, displaying these characteristics ensure you’ll gain value from the relationship, as well.

🤩Sponsorship and Accountability. It is so important for clients to have an executive-level sponsor on their team to keep everyone accountable and driving towards the same goal. When leadership isn’t on board, it’s very hard for the team to devote the time needed to get the most value out of the project. And even harder to convince the company to adjust to the potential change that could come as a result.
🤩Participation. It’s a two-way street. You must participate. Often, consultants make recommendations or propose strategies and the client doesn’t want to do the work to make it happen. This stuff is a lot of work. It’s disruptive. But that’s how change happens. Put in the work today to make your tomorrow a little easier, more efficient, or more successful.
Thoughtful feedback. It takes time, but it’s necessary. Consultants and vendors are on the outside. No matter how much research and immersion we’ve done to understand your business, it’s not the same as you living and breathing it every day. If we’re missing the mark, we want to know about it so we can provide value – otherwise, we’re wasting everyone’s time. If we don’t hear feedback, we assume you’re on board and we’ll continue down the same path.
🤩Communication. We’re all human. Things come up, deadlines are missed, priorities shift. We understand that. It happens for us, too. But keep the lines of communication open. As consultants, when a client goes silent, we’re often unable to proceed. It affects timelines and how we’ve allocated resources to accommodate a project. The last thing we’d tell a client is “Sorry, we don’t have time to do this anymore because we have X number of other client projects to work on” because we are committed to the success of your business. But often, that’s the truth. In this line of work, we must be accountable for every hour of our day in order to support the portfolio of clients that we have.

🤩Humility. We’re not here to tell you all the ways you’re doing things wrong. We want to work with you to improve your marketing and sales because we’re convinced it will make an impact to your business. We believe in the power of marketing. If we’re proposing ideas or ways to do things better, we’re not trying to attack the work you’ve done leading up to this point. And we’re definitely not trying to create busy work for you and your team. We just want to enable you to do it a little bit better. We want to support you.

🤩Commitment. “This is all great advice, but I just don’t have the time to implement.” Or, “The sales team will never buy off on this change.” We’d be doing you a disservice if our recommendations revolved around what would be comfortable for your organization. Yes, some things really can’t change, and we’ll cross that bridge when we get there…but let’s keep an open mind to the possibilities even if it makes people a little bit uncomfortable. If it was easy, you wouldn’t need us!

🤩Kindness. We’re all adults here and for 99% of us, I shouldn’t have to remind you to be professional and kind to one another. But there are those that find it easy to take frustrations out on a third-party. I only say that because I’m guilty of it. Many years ago, I’d been under pressure from my manager and I took my frustration out on a vendor I was working with. That wasn’t fair, and it’s truly one of those things I think about at 3am when I’m lying awake, dwelling on all the awful and awkward things I’ve done in my life (like all sane and well-adjusted adults do, right!?). I realize now the impact moments like that have on the real people trying to do their jobs and make their customers happy and successful.
These characteristics aren’t exclusive to just clients. It applies to us, too. No matter what side of the table you’re on, these characteristics make up a great professional in any setting.🤩

Good relationship with clients

Have you ever been a customer of another person or company that has treated you badly? I have, and I bet you have too. I have been yelled at, cursed at, and even threatened in the past, but I turned that person or company into a friend almost every time through my responses in each situation. One of the valuable lessons I learned through these experiences was that I should always treat the other person or company with respect even if I am treated badly or don’t agree with them. Client Relationships are important.

This has led me to realize not everyone treats their customers and clients as well as they could. For a business, unhappy clients can mean less business. Unfortunately, surveys show 91% of unhappy customers simply leave the relationship.
