As per the Presidential Proclamation No. 731 series of 1996, the 2nd week of February is declared as the โ€œNational Awareness Week for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitationโ€, also known as the โ€œChild Sexual Abuse Awareness Week (CSAAW)โ€. With conservatism and collectivism still deeply ingrained in Philippine society and in the typical nuclear family, this makes it harder for young victims to speak up against their abusers more so recognize that they are being abused. It doesnโ€™t have to stay this way. No matter how daunting ending child sexual abuse and violence may be for people at a glance, arming an informed citizenry to support, address, and call for improved systemic reforms is A MUST. Addressing cancer care gap starts with calling for health equity for all For two years in a row now, cancer remains the third leading cause of mortality in the country. While efforts are continuously poured in strengthening prevention, treatment, and diagnosis, the gap in peopleโ€™s access to basic cancer care is still widely felt, especially in developing countries like the Philippines. Hence this World Cancer Day and beyond, collectively closing the gap in cancer care is the topmost priority of the various organizations allied with the Union for International Cancer Control. Inequity in cancer care costs lives. Even the slightest income margin could mean the difference between life and death for someone. Achieving health equity can only be done through collective action. And it starts with YOU. Be informed; take a stand and join millions of people around the world in closing the gap. #CloseTheCareGap #WorldCancerDay #RCYHAU

We might just be a few days away from welcoming 2022, but that doesnโ€™t mean we should be celebrating without any precautions. As dwindling numbers in firecracker-related injuries have been recorded recently by the Department of Health, partaking in the festivities that the holidays bring also includes harboring awareness and consciousness of the dangers caused by using firecrackers single handedly and in close proximity. With December being declared as โ€œFirecrackers Injury Prevention Month,โ€ RCY HAU encourages everyone to use alternatives such as drums, plastic horns, or just turn up the stereo to celebrate in a safe, simple way! Prevention is always better than cure. With that, Happy New Year from our RCY-HAU family to yours! May the coming year be filled with new adventures and good fortunes. #FirecrackersInjuryPreventionMonth #RCYHAU

If thereโ€™s one thing that the global lock-down and the current vacuum we are all in has taught us, it is the vital importance of practicing good hand hygiene in order to prevent outbreaks and reduce the toll of both current and future pandemics. With such efforts put in place this Global Hand-washing Day, not only are we reminded to adhere to proper soap hand washing but also to make basic hygiene an everyday habit in hopes of igniting long lasting change and community-driven action. Because our future is at hand and in our own hands. #OurFutureisatHand #LetsMoveForwardTogether #RCYHAU Pubmat: Multimedia Arts and Creative Committee Words Mia Grace Malit

As we welcome World Mental Health Day this October 10, the stigma and widespread discrimination faced by people with mental health issues are still present. They continue to affect everyoneโ€™s lives in every way possible, taking a toll on their well-being amid the pandemic. Yet it isnโ€™t too late to support and advocate for a mental health care that is inclusive, aware, and accessible. With all the resources we, the youth, have in our hands: it is possible. Letโ€™s make it a reality, you and me. The time starts now. #WorldMentalHealthDay2021 #MentalHealthCareforAll #LetsMakeitaReality #RCYHAU Pubmat: Christine Diane Nabong Words: RCY Research Committee

An overwhelming majority of Filipinos suffer from anxiety, isolation, and loss brought about by over a year in lockdown. Frontline healthcare providers, OFWs, service workers, and students โ€” they all face the burden and challenges of a declining mental health. As we celebrate National Mental Health Week this October, let us all be reminded, not only in these times but every day, that mental health is for ALL. And as the youth, this entails supporting and caring for everyone as well as maximizing online platforms to increase public awareness and rally for participatory governance in providing public mental health services for ALL. #NMHW2021 #RCYHAU Pubmat: Wayne P. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As the most common cancer affecting women of all ages, its symptoms stay largely undetected which leads to late treatment. Regular self-checks for any changes in the breast are important, yet it is also everyoneโ€™s role to encourage their friends and loved ones to do so from time to time. Honoring and standing with all the brave men and women in their fight does not stop there. Prevention is better than cure, and that starts with ourselvesโ€”by taking an active role in ensuring this is done purposefully. #NationalBreastCancerAwarenessMonth #RCYHAU Pubmat: Christine Diane Nabong

This first week of October, we celebrate the little successes of the Filipino elderly through the Elderly Filipino Week. Signed by then-President Fidel Ramos in 1994, the proclamation and the activities spearheaded by both the government and civic organizations highlight the significant contribution and importance of our senior citizens in nation-building. As youths with fundamental knowledge and skills, recognizing the elderlyโ€™s rights, health, and welfare alongside supporting them in their respective ventures should be second natureโ€”especially now that they stand vulnerable from deadly, infectious diseases. More than the โ€œkumusta poโ€™sโ€ and โ€œmano poโ€™sโ€ we never fail to give to the elderly, recognizing the vigor in them alongside promoting their well-being should never stray away from our minds. To our elderly Filipinos, RCY HAU is always with you! #ElderlyFilipinoWeek #PalakasanPaunlarinPahalagahanAngKatandaangPilipino #rcyhau

Calamities and disasters, natural or man-made, strike the way we least expect it to. Its aftermath is both massive and unprecedented, affecting millions of lives and livelihood along the way. Yet the fear of the unforeseeable should not stop us from coming in prepared at all times. This National Preparedness Month, let us move beyond knowing what to do when disasters strike, and take extra steps to ensure our safety and that of our loved ones. Plan ahead. Prepare a kit. Be informed. Always remember, disaster preparedness can save lives. #DisasterPreparedness #AMustForEveryone #rcyhau Pubmat: Nika Angela Hagoy Words: Mia Grace Malit

Suicide took the precious lives of 4,420 people last year, bringing nothing but grief, loss, and questions unanswered from those left behind. But for the people who are gradually losing the light in their eyes, hope may just be their last resort as they spiral down the darkest of paths with no return. September 10 may be World Suicide Prevention Day but that does not stop YOU nor US from rekindling the fireโ€”that hope within the hearts of those around us to live. To persist. To be with them in every fall and little successes they may encounter in conquering the conquerable. Even so, let us join the International Association for Suicide Prevention today, tomorrow, and in the many months to come to โ€œcreate hope through actionโ€ in these specially trying times. You are important. Your feelings matter. Your life matters. #CreatingHopeThroughAction #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #rcyhau Pubmat: Nika Angela Hagoy Words: Mia Grace Malit

As obesity is considered as one of the countryโ€™s serious health problems due to unhealthy adaptation of Western lifestyle and diet, former President Joseph Estrada signed Proclamation No. 162 on August 21, 1999, which authorizes the observance of Obesity Prevention Awareness Week every first week of September. The proclamation aims to address different concerns about obesity, such as its prevention, management, and treatment, through intensifying the publicโ€™s knowledge and awareness, with the intent of reducing life-threatening health complications such as heart diseases and type 2 diabetes. As Robert C. Peale said - โ€˜The best and most efficient pharmacy is within your own system.โ€™ Thus, always remember to eat better, not less. #EatWellBeWell #ObesityPreventionAwarenessWeek #RCYHAU Words: Lianne David & Kyle Nicole Dela Paz Pubmat: Multimedia Arts and Creative Committee

Have you been feeling sluggish these past few days? Given the stress and anxieties brought by the online setup, it might be easy to blame it on the unending workload. Yet has it ever crossed your mind that it might not just be a simple fatigue, but you might actually be anemic? Iron deficiency anemia is just one among several blood-related diseases critical to the health of every Filipino, yet remains to be the least recognized and prioritized. This September, as we celebrate Blood Diseases Month, not only do we highlight the hidden pervasiveness of anemia but also that of other diseases related to the blood. From hemophilia and iron deficiency to lymphoma and leukemia, it is high time that we address these and put such critical illnesses to public attention. With the consequences of such diseases, especially when left undiagnosed and overlooked, Filipinos risk to develop more symptoms that can further hinder them from thriving in their day-to-day lives. For a country like the Philippines, strategically situated in the Global South, the youth must be vigilant and champion awareness as well as education in the littlest of ways. Only in protecting the red river of life are we one step closer in collectively emerging toward a Healthy Pilipinas! #TheRedRiverOfLife #BloodDiseaseMonth2021 #RCYHAU Pubmat: Multimedia Arts and Creative Committee Words: Mia Grace Malit

The adolescent period of an individual is very significant as it is a time of dynamic changes due to transition to adulthood. It is very important to take precautionary practices to promote health and well-being, such as by having immunizations. However, according to the Department of Health, statistics show that many adolescents in the country continue to acquire diseases which can be prevented by vaccines; some of these diseases are measles, hepatitis B, and meningitis. With the aim of raising awareness on the importance of vaccines in preventing diseases for adolescents, the month of August is regarded as the National Adolescents Immunization month in the Philippines. Want to know more about the different roles and importance of vaccines to adolescents? RCY-HAU got you covered! Together, we shall continue to echo and reiterate: โ€œVaccines save lives.โ€ #NationalAdolescentImmunizationMonth #VaccinesWork #VaccinesSaveLives #HAURCY Video: Nika Angela Hagoy Words: Kyle Nicole Dela Paz & Lianne David
