Why Putting Your Dental Care Off is an Expensive Choice or Why Visiting a Dentist is expensive or so you thought:
đThere are a number of reasons why dental procedures are so expensive. First, services are performed by trained professionals. Dentists are doctors who go through many years of college, dental school and specialized training. Like many other professionals -- lawyers, medical doctors, accountants, expert mechanics etc. -- dental services are priced accordingly.
đDental care is not a commodity. Itâs not laundry detergent or breakfast cereal or wireless minutes you could bargain the price off. Dentists give reasonable discounts yes!
đDentistry is a professional service thatâs both art and a science. They spend time doing the best they can to cater you satisfactorily services.
đOverhead costs are huge. Anywhere from 60% to 80% of what a patient pays goes toward the expense of running a modern dental practice. Dentists pay for rent or mortgage payments on their office space, payroll for hygienists, office managers and receptionists, health insurance, taxes, dental supplies and machines, business insurance and technology -- just to name a few. A lot of people would be surprised to know how tight the profit margins are.
đThe big boys, of course, play with big toys. The tools on hand at a general dentistry practice include highly specialized equipment that is not only pricey to purchase, but also to maintain.
đLaboratories differ in the quality of the products they produce. We all want our dentists to be using high-quality labs for things like crowns and dentures and the like. Should we have to ask about the labs? No. We should trust our dentists to select a good one.
đIn dentists' view, you always want to use a good lab, because if the crown breaks, The doctor's the one stuck redoing the thing for another hour and a half for free. Itâs important to make sure He/she is putting good stuff in peopleâs mouths, because the last thing anyone wants to deal with is a redo. It doesnât make a doctor look good, the patients get angry, insurance doesnât cover it, and itâs a waste of time. The dentist wants to do a good job.
đDentists spend on purchasing quality products and instruments too! (Imagine a china brand phone and an apple phone or any same products with the same use but with different brands, one you used for a day or three and the other one you're using for long periods of time already. See the logic?)
đInsurance isnât really insurance. Dental insurance, the dentists told me, is nothing like health insurance or auto insurance. Itâs a maintenance plan that will cover cleanings and x-rays, maybe half the cost of a crown. It will not protect you if you need a lot of work done.
đDentists wish patients would value their teeth more. Teeth are a crucial part of health and appearance. Untreated gum disease, for instance, is linked to heart disease. (Would you choose a cardiologist based on price?) âWith time, you will come to realize that shopping price is a minor concern when it comes to your health. Any minor cost differences amortized out over a lifetime will become insignificant. You will get the best results and have the most long-term satisfaction getting care from someone you trust.
đGoing to the dentist isnât on the top of everyoneâs list, but there are a few reasons why itâs an important choice to make the trip at least a couple of times each year.
đCatching dental problems early means itâs more affordable to correct them. In some cases they may even be completely reversible on your own! Early decay starts out as demineralized enamel that is usually only treated with fluoride. But, if you wait too long, that demineralization turns into a cavity.
đTreating your cavities or broken teeth should be done as early as possible. Otherwise the tooth structure continues to break down and decay, causing a larger portion of the tooth to be compromised. What is only a filling on one day may become a root canal and a crown a few months later.
đComfort is something that a good dentist will take seriously. Even if youâre nervous about having dental work done, there are ways to help calm your nerves and enjoy a positive experience.
đBUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, For those who'd rather not spend an arm and a leg to keep their teeth healthy, there are no better weapons in the fight against exorbitant dental costs than your toothbrush, floss and regular professional cleanings and check ups."
